Are your kids getting genetic testing through the GI doc or on your own? When going to the 23andme site, they say they are no longer doing medical testing.

What does the genetic information tell you?

It doesn't really give you in medical info just ancestry info, you can get further medical through other companies. There is a thread on it in the main site
Here's a link to one http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=67893
The ancestry part was interesting in itself as his father who also has crohn's was adopted and so we really had no idea as far as ancestry so that was quite interesting to see.
We have not gone any farther in testing although he had the prometheus diagnostic done several years ago which showed several Crohn's mutations.

They are only permitted to give ancestral info. The FDA forbids them from giving risk assessment based on genetics like they do in other countries because essentially the info can be scary to some. They are trying to change this and are petitioning for change.

They do give you raw data that you can plug into sites that will give you health info.

By and large this study is to help a Pfizer find new drugs for crohns.

Thank you for pointing me to the main thread jmrogers4. I didn't realize there was a genetic research study going on. I'm thrilled to have my son's DNA participate. And FREE!

And, nogutsnoglory, thanks for bringing this study to our attention.

Signed up. Looking forward to learning more.

We did it for Ds found a lot of nod2 ibd5 etc crohns /JSpA/JAS markers.
Doesn't change what we do or know just confirms what we already are doing .

Good luck

MLP, I've seen you and others mention genetics on many different threads but I never saw the main genetic thread. I'm so grateful for your participation on this forum.

I don't expect to find any shocking results from the genetic testing, but it might be able to tailor the treatment and that is super.

Yes, mlp is wonderful. We even have a thread (forget the name) to say thank you/you're awesome/ your the best to MLP.
Ummm what was the name of it?:ybatty:

Thank God she can't kill through my laptop.:rof:
