I have UC and have been in remission for about four months. Over the last four weeks, my joints (knees, ankles) have been starting to ache/swell again and my eyes are super sensitive to sunlight. I have been going to the toilet more often and having a lot of mucous, terrible gas, cramping and abdo pain that wakes me in the night. However, I have no blood. In my last two flares, I always had blood. I feel stupid ringing the IBD nurse if its a false alarm. Does this sound like I could be at the start of an impending flare up? I'm currently taking 8 Asacol a day and 150mg of Imuran.

I hope you are able to get some relief.
I appreciate your replies. I left a message today on my IBD nurse's phone (she only works part time) which I will follow up tomorrow. I'm trying to hold down a full-on full time job and feel a bit demoralised by the fact that I've come full circle back to this. I'm thankful though that my UC is not as bad as some people's is. My twin sis has also been recently diagnosed with UC. However, she is on her first flare-up and has it in the rectum only (mine is in patches throughout the sigmoid/tansverse and ascending colon). Its just nice to talk with others who have this wretched condition. remission was awesome while it lasted.

It,ll settle again get hold of your doctor who can hopefully get it back under control quickly,good luck
