Abscess is coming back and hurts bad! Going to the ER! Dang it! Just got my drain out on Jan 2.

Welcome to the club. I had my surgery November 11, 2011. Give it a name, you'll be seeing it around for awhile (not to be a negative Nancy). However, although my abscess is still present it hasn't given me pain in about a year now.

What kind of surgery did you have? I named her Kristi, bad ex girlfriend!

Where is your abscess ? Has it been drained before? What treatment are you currently on ? Sorry for all the questions just trying to build a picture so I can answer better.

I'm so sorry to hear that!

I just had an abscess drained (my drain was taken out yesterday). I had been in & out of the hospital since October also! And it went undiagnosed until Christmas.

I'd also like to know where your abscess was located? Did you develope a fistula with it as well or no? Sounds like we have a lot in common Herndog!

Speaking of which- does anyone know the % rate of abscesses returning? Just curious

The abscess is in the lower left side of my colon. Have had two drains in for it the last one I got out on Jan 2. They did a CT and said the abscess has gotten bigger and there is a fistula there now. Getting another drain put in today and probably surgery in a few days. Anything I should ask my doctor or certain treatments I should ask about before I have surgery? Im taking prednisone and 6 mp.

I'm in the same boat I've been left with a small opening in the rhs of my groin, it now just drains clear/yellow fluid no bowel matter, although it does pass wind from time to time but unfortunately it can't be seen with imaging. I've been started back on aza and pred in the hope of it closing and staying closed, these openings we weren't born with really aren't good.

Have they mentioned what surgery they are considering. ? Try not and worry about it, you can't live having constant abscesses.

Ugh I am so sorry you are going through this! Surgery is scary but be thankful they know what's going on & how to fix it so they can take care of the problem quickly! Hopefully you will feel much better in the end.... keep us updated!!

If it makes me feel better I'm all for it. Still just nervous, who wouldn't before surgery. Thanks for all the help.

I had one from Sept to Dec, went completely away right at Christmas. As of Sat., it's back, and just started draining on it's own today. Hoping I don't end up in ER again for surgery!

Do you have a fistula? Are they thinking about seton placement?
I am sorry that you are going through this. It is so frustrating to have to keep having it drained. It it is a fistula and they place a seton it should help with the constant abscessing. Good luck.

I too have had abscesses in my belly. It totally sucks. So my advise would be to not hessitate and go to the ER if you think something is wrong. Its better to be safe then sorry! Good luck!
