hey guys just wondering what symptoms you had when you had an abscess and what treatment did you receive for it

either under my diaphragm like theres discomfort there in the middle of chest under the ribs and on my lower right side like where the appendix is

I had a perforation that contained itself as an intra abdominal abscess. My symptoms where generally feeling unwell, extreme dizziness, sweating buckets, raising CRP from 90-280, nausea, diarrhea, weight loss, pain and palpable mass in RLQ with referred pain into psoas muscle (front of thigh). It was picked up on CT scan and I was treated with 1 week of IV antibiotics and 3 weeks oral antibiotics. The abscess shrunk and infection cleared but I needed surgery in the end due to the damage and residual collection of fluid. If you suspect an abscess you need bloods taken and a trip to the hospital before it becomes worse. Most intra-abdominal abscesses need drained. Hope you get some answers soon.

My son also had an intra abdominal abscess but unfortunately he also had a fistula so had a drain in for 3 months followed by a resection.

His abscess was on the psoas muscle and his symptoms were escalating pain, a worsening limp (could barely walk), CRP and WCC count through the roof.

I had an abscess last September but only knew about it after being kept over an hour after a CT scan. I could not feel it but i was definitely fevering. I was admitted to the hospital that afternoon for placement of a drain and IV antibiotics. I was also put on TPN's and was not allowed anything by mouth. I went from September 14th to November 16th on TPN's. We finally realized my gutt would not heal on its own and we had to do surgery.

Doing much better these days. I guess we are all different even though we suffer from the same relentless disorder. Best advice- you know your body best. If you think something is not right, don't stop bugging your doctors until someone gives you an answer you can accept.

Good luck and remember you are not alone! :)

When I had my perianal abscess my symptoms were:

The abscess: Warm to touch, looks red
Feels very hard
Sore to touch, could barely walk, stand sit

Everything else: Fever
Nausea
Loss of appetite (probably due to being nauseated)
Lack of energy -always felt physically drained

Mind you my abscess was in a different area so we could have different feelings when we touch them but at the end of the day an abscess is an abscess. I'll advise you to take as many epsom salt baths as you can in a day. Before I had surgery for mine, or the other popped a bath was literally the only thing that gave me relief. I got it nice and hot and stayed in there for as long as I could. After all with the condition I was in I certainly wasn't able to do much else. You're going to want to get it taken care of ASAP. The earlier you get it looked at, if you do end up requiring surgery (which is much easier than it seems) your recovery time will be shorter and the pain from the drainage will be much faster/easier as well.

I can attest to that as I waited 3 years to get my first abscess drained. It was huge and now I have to deal with a huge scar from where I needed extensive surgery that left me in the hospital for 5 days.. all because I worked myself up and got it in my head that the surgery was much worse than it was. The relief I got immediately after was the greatest thing ever and I regret not doing it as soon as I knew what it was.

You might be able to try antibiotics first (usually cipro and flagyl) depending on the current stage of your abscess but it's definitely something you don't want to leave alone. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions
