It has been a while since I have been on these forums and a lot has changed. But for this rant almost none of that matters. All you need to know is that I was covered by state insurance had my humira, and everything I needed. So beginning of August we get a letter saying I no longer qualify for state medicaid, okay this isnt good. Even with my meds I dont even work a full work week. Well we have to get it somehow. Cheapest we find for what i need is 360$ a month. Not great but not bad. Okay End of august comes around, Wife gets on the phone with the insurance provider we found for the price, tell them we want the plan but it cant start until October 1st. Because we dont have the money for it right now and it has to be paid within days to be activated. So October 1st. we were assured that it would be fine. Come September 28th we get a bill in the mail for two months... Makes no sense, should just be for october... nope they never post dated it. We got charged for Sept too... We call. them and the market place nothing can be done. Okay well we will just have to play catch up. call yesterday to pay my insurance and get my info, My account was cancelled for being behind. I now have no insurance for another month. The first month of september wasnt a big deal because i had saved up a month of Humira and whatever other meds i would need before i lost my insurance. Well I'm out of everything but vitamins at this point have missed tons of work, cant pay my rent until closer to the end of the month, and now that i'ved missed so much humira, which was being considered as having a dwindeling affect on me is going to be useless. WTF DO I DO! I call everyone, Humira, State, The insurance companies again, old doctors t see if they can help.... not a single person or company can help me. and i am SIMPLY ******. pardon the language. :angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead::angry-banghead: Will probably see the inside of an OR by the end of october if nothing comes of this... Great...

That's crazy. I'm really sorry Sky. :( I really hope you can get things situated. Have you called Humira and asked about qualifying for their co-pay savings card? Did they still say no? I'm going to tag afidz. She had a similar situation about difficulty getting her humira. Maybe she can offer some input.

Thank you so much CrohnsChicago.

I have tried contacting everyone, Humira offers 75% savings for my medication but 1500$ a month is not something i can afford. I have also contacted supervisors for my insurance, old doctors of mine to see if myabe they can prescribe something to hold for a month. Everyone i call seem to have their hands tied. This last month of drawn out shots have me missing days of work left and right. I have absolutely no idea what i'm going to do.

My wife said she tried. It is the same amount of wait to get set up. Thanks for the info though. This is exactly why I posted. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I'm lost in the dark.

Dang. Um. I am struggling with insurance pre-approvals for Humira, but I will not buy it out of pocket no matter how much I need it and there has been a heck of a lot of drama, because I know it is extremely costly. So, I feel you on needing a good biologic, that may invoke remission. www.Healthwellfoundation.org www.theassistancefund.org www.cdfund.org www.needymeds.org www.rxassist.org These are some that I have come across but I don't know what the eligibility requirements are to apply for them.

Thank you! I really appreciate the info. Unfortunately they all have application periods at around the same length. Keep'em coming I'm sure there has to be or someone out there that can help me.

On a side note i really dont understand any of these damned wait times. I gave you my money now give me my insurance. People dont understand that they are screwing with people's lives?

It probably doesn't help you to know, but it's not just America where you have waiting times and administrative hassle when it comes to insurance.

When I moved to Germany at the end of 2011, it took nearly 3 months to get insurance. Granted, that was then applied retroactively from the time I applied for insurance (but it also meant I had to pay retroactively although I didn't have an insurance card etc.). Basically "socialist" Germany to some extent has the pre-Obamacare system augmented by a public option plan if you earn over a certain threshold of I think 3.5k per month. Private insurers are completely free to reject you based on any pre-existing conditions and the public option plan doesn't take you either unless you can show you have been publicly insured for at least 2 years in the past 5 years or at least 1 year in the past 2 years. There are exceptions for students and people under 30, but that did not apply to me. So if you lived in the US before, the system practically excludes you from getting health insurance (except some private insurers offer insurance carving out Crohn's - so they don't pay anything that relates to Crohn's which is pretty much everything). Well, I luckily narrowly made the 2 years out of the past 5 years exception as I had also lived in Austria and the UK before.

Anyway, having said that, the new US system post-Obamacare actually doesn't sound too bad to me.

This is just a shot in the dark, but sometimes doctors get free samples of medications from their pharmaceuticals reps. Perhaps your doctor would have some samples of Humira that they can give you to tide you over for the time being? I'm not sure if that's a possibility but it's the only thing I can think of offhand that hasn't already been mentioned. Good luck!

It makes me so sad to hear so many people in this situation. I'm very lucky I'm in the UK and I don't have to do any of this. Yes, we all pay national insurance which covers the healthcare system somewhat, but it's disturbing that really sick people are having to choose between paying for medication or paying their rent! I don't have anything useful to offer here but please know I am thinking of you xxx
