I've been absolutely shattered lately and I've been like this for a couple of years. I'm mentioning this only now as it has become worse over the past month and I fainted in work yesterday while patient was in the dentists chair! I cam round on the dentists chair with an oxygen mask on my face completely confused. I remember feeling pins and needles all over and being thirsty. Since then I feel like no matter how much I drink I'm dying of thirst, I've been drinking isotonic drinks to try and hydrate. My energy levels are ridiculous I could sleep for days if I was given he chance and I have slept for 24hours solid on a day off before. The rumour around work is that I'm pregnant had to take a test to shut them up lol
Anybody else have issues with energy levels. I think it's related to the crohns/ ileostomy?
Thanks all! Xxxx

Me! I'd have my hand raised in agreement but feeling to run down to make the effort. Don't know what it is for sure, as the gut is doing fantastic! Energy levels are running near the empty range though. Rather annoying. Hope this passes soon.

For me, I've been know to nap in dental chairs. They can be so nice and comfy. For you though not good about fainting while on the job! That's serious and in need of some medical investigation, I'd have to imagine. Hope you find an answer as to what's going on. Maybe anemia?

I had anaemia in my teens during a bad flare get blood tests quite regularly. I'm the same, my tummy is great at the min. I double checked if there was any blood in output as I was told I had some ulcers but there was nothing. I'll definitely mention to my consultant at my next appointment. I just feel so lazy, I sleep as soon as I get home from work. My boyfriend has been doing all the cleaning and cooking, it's great lol but I need my energy back cause its getting ridiculous now.

Just wondering if you have vitamin b12 injections? I have them 3 monthly after my first bowel resection 20 years ago I was the same. Had to do a test which involved collecting 24 hours worth of urine.
Anyway to get to the point if the part of bowel respected is responsible for absorbing b12 then the only way to get it is injection.

I know I am getting close to needing it as I get extra tired. I had to have it today as saw dr and was hit with b12 and flu vac.

Have you checked your blood sugar level, thirst is a symptom of diabetes. I am exhausted lately too, wondering if I am deficient in something ! Xx

Hannah, are you having your blood tested regularly? All your vitamins need to be checked too. Vitamin D, B12, Iron, etc....

It also sounds like you are dehydrated. As none of these things should be messed about with, any chance you can get in to your GP at least quickly? And be checked?

Also, have you noticed breathlessness, or irregular heartbeat? (anemia)

The joys of Crohns....NOT.

I am always exhausted and have been for as long as i can remember. I think its just crohn's though like you I also have it when my crohn's is good, like now when its all been cut out.
For you, it could be anaemia, diabetes, dehydration or lacking in any of the essential vitamins and minerals. Diabetes and dehydration were the first things that occurred to me when I read your symptoms. But of course it could just be crohn's. Damn this disease!

Sadly, the first thing I thought was diabetes as well. I hope it's not that! But, sounds like it's time to get some bloodwork done and figure it out. Hope you feel better soon!

:rosette1: Hannah---I am right there with you--went through that in November. My Dr. told me that it would happen sometimes. I went in a few times for a bag or 2 of IV fluids. My blood pressure would bottom out in a big way, and I got that heavy but strangely light feeling. Thankfully, I didn't pass out like you did. Does sound like you need a blood draw to check your electrolyte, vitamin, iron, etc. levels, though. I had that done as well, just showed mild dehydration issues, nothing terrible (was checked for diabetes as well). My Dr. also has Crohn's---so his advice and help has been wonderful. Hopefully you can get in ASAP---would your Dr. order labs without actually seeing you in the clinic? Not sure how that works where you live. Hang in there, it will resolve soon. I literally woke up one morning and was better "just like that." WEEIIIRRRD! Dana

Yep I'm pretty much tired all the time too. I've always just chalked it up to a Crohns thing. And lately I assume I'm still regaining strength from having surgery.
I'd agree with everyone else though that some blood work should be done. It sounds like you are more then just a little tired all the time. And passing out can't be a good sign.
Hope you get it sorted out quickly.

snap you describe it so accurately - heavy but strangely light. Was that cos of blood pressure or dehydration or electrolytes? I've been getting it a lot lately when I stand up and it lasts for about 10 minutes. Also incredible cramps in my feet , calves and even hands. I usually drink a salty drik and have some supplements and that seems to help. I don't want to go to the doctor cos I couldn't bare going to hospital again.

I've been hounding my doctor about Vit B injection for the past year.He refuses to give me any because when he tested me I wasn't "low".I know it would help me, and I really wish he'd just give it to me.It's not going to hurt, that's for sure.

Muscle cramps like ya'll are describing are usually magnesium and potassium deficiencies. And you probably need zinc as well.

As for vit B12, if you are consistently LOW to medium low on it, vit12 injections should be looked into as well. It's the persistenly lower than average scores on B12 that the GI or GP should be looking at.

I have fatigue issues also. In my case I believe it be a side effect of Imuran. I'm on the max dosage, and have found my energy level at night is very low. I'm fine during the day, but I don't stay awake often beyond 10pm

Wah, I'm late on that thread but I get terrible fatigue when I flare.... That is almost my only symptom beside seeing mucous and fistula... =( It's pretty annoying as I never know what is going up with me. At time, my GP was thinking I was in depression because no one thought of looking if I was having active crohn. I know that you were saying that you are now dealing with the return of the disease. Is it any better yet. That is if you have started remicade again?

I found out recently I had low levels of Vit D, which apparently can cause severe fatigue...and depression, both of which I had...

Yes my vitamin D levels are always low despite getting sun and taking 6 of the supplement tablets each day. My doctor has now prescribed rocalcitrol (sp?) so hopefully that will help. The alternative is fit D injections IM which are meant to be very painful. I said it can't be too bad compared to everything else they've done to me but thought we'd try the tablets first anyway. Anyone else taking or have taken it?

p.s. Gracifer are you taking a supplement now? Hope it helps with everything for you.

Hi Anna, yeah I am..have been for a couple of months now. I'm on something like 10,000 iu, definitely less fatigued.. it's hard to tell though what's depression from low Vit D levels and what's 'normal' lowness with what comes with this disease..

Yes, unfortunately depresion seems to go hand in hand with any chronic illness and its compounded with crohn's/uc cos we also have vitamin and mineral deficiencies. All I can say is thank god for antidepressants. They are a life saver for me.
