Hello,

My son has been on the Injection ada since September and 6mp since around June/july. My son is 10 so obviously growing but he is gaining weight rapidly, 1 stone within 3/4 weeks. The hospital are saying it’s nothing to do with the ada and that it’s just the disease is well controlled. When the disease has been well controlled before he never got this big. When I have look it up online there are quite a few bits that say it can make you put on weight.

Has any one else experienced weight gain with either of the 2 medications.

Thanks ☺️

You may have more luck in the parents of kids with ibd subforum
Your child is a 10 year old boy .
I point this out
Most pre teen boys gain a lot of weight quickly at that age
Then short bones (hands feet ) grow rapidly . More weight gain then long bones (legs /arms )
From around 10-15 this can happen .
My now adult son with IBD did the same at 10-11 till 15 .
My other son who is older and doesn’t have IBD did the same .
My child was on humira plus mtx for 5 plus years and then moved to Stelara plus mtx (7 years on this combo ) .

That said if he is swollen in only one area. Has pitting edema etc… then see the pediatrician to check kidneys /blood pressure …
Odds are it’s normal beginnings of puberty and rapid growth .

Brilliant. Thank you for your reply. So you don’t think in your opinion it has anything to do with the medications he’s on? When looking them up online there’s mixed things about that they cause weight gain so it’s a bit confusing x

Kids /teens are not little adults
Not a doctor
But in my mother of two adult boys opinion
He is stocking up weight so he can grow like crazy
Expect 2-3 shoes sizes in growth in a year
Pre teen boys look like puppies
Big hands and feet and very clumsy as a result of rapid growth
My ibd kiddo grew 6-7 inches in one year alone .
But shoes change first
