Hi everyone, I am a newbie on here.

I hope someone can help me with some recent bloods.

I have had Crohn's for over 5 years now and I think I am suffering a flare up symptoms include no appetite, pain after eating, blood in stools etc. I got some bloods done and they have came back as :

esr 33 mm

crp 15 mm

platelet count 469 and

WBC 11.

Can anyone enlighten me on these?

Thanks so much if you can help.

ESR is sed rate, it is an indicator of the amount of inflammation in the body. Normal range is 0-20 in females, so yours is a little elevated.

the CRP, I'm still kind of iffy on this. I'm not sure what the normal level is, but again, i believe it is a good indicator of the amount of imflammation in your body.

your platelet count is a little high, which, i believe, can be a good indication of inflammation process going on in your body and or could be a sign of infection.

your WBC of 11 is a little elevated as well, which could mean inflammation and or infection as well.

Are you in the midst of a flare at the moment? I believe your blood results would point toward being in a flare.

However, don't hold me to it!! There are other people around here that are much more knoweledgeable about blood counts. Someone else will probably come around and give some advice as well.

Hope you are feeling okay!

Hi manzyb,

Thanks so much for your input.

Yes, there is definitely something going on inside, I think as you say either infection or flare. Just feel not good, but it seems to come over me in waves, for a couple of hours I'm not too bad then I feel dreadful.

Hi mcconnell
Welcome to the forum.
It is as Manzyb has outlined you have evidence of inflammation going on and maybe a little infection.
When do you see your GI again---they may want to give you some medication.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Hi trysha,

Around 6 weeks ago I saw my consultant and I was feeling bad at that stage, he upped my prednisone to 40mg with a reducing dose (now on 5mg that's my maintaining dose). I never felt any better when on the high dose. X

Hi mcconnellg
It could be a good idea to get in touch with him and let him know what is happening.
He may want to revise the medication to help your situation.

Trysha,

Thanks for your advice I will contact him but it's a public holiday here in northern Ireland tomorrow and Friday so will be Monday if I manage to get in touch :(. Have experienced before going to casualty and because of Crohn's being complex they keep me in until a GI consultant can see me (normally takes around a week!).

Hi mcconnellg
I know the feeling.
Sorry it is a holiday over there, however if things start to get worse it is better to go to casualty and get some help before it gets unmanageable.
You are the best judge of what is happening to you but it is always advisable to get on top of an infection or obstruction as soon as possible.
Feel better soon-----keep in touch and let us know how things go for you.
Hugs and best wishes

Hi,

I called my consultant first thing this morning and he advices me to take 6400mg of acasol instead of my normal 3200mg. This seems quite a lot but obviously he knows best. Hope it doesn't take too long to work. X
