Hello just been informed that if my Humira does not work again I should consider having a stoma for a year to give my bowel a rest.
I have had CD for 20 years had one op and been on most drugs.I am not scared of having a stoma(I used to be scared) I would like some advice on the pro`s and cons...Please.

Well, pro's...you can sleep through most of the night once it settles down. You are no longer running to the toilet 25-30 times a day. You can actually have a life! Your body, once it recovers from the surgery feels much better!

Cons: You can have leaks. (had one today in fact..at work :ywow:) Only because I tried to wear the hernia support garments. Waste of time!

You cant wear white trousers. Then again, would you do that now???? I mean, are you Elvis?

There can be complications from surgery. It can take awhile to get used to the appliance, but with help from a good stoma nurse, and US of course, you should be fine! You will find quite alot of us think that having that surgery has been one of the best things ever!

I'm in a flare right now (CRAP!!!!) and its sooooooo much better without running to the loo I tell ya!!!

Ditto everything Misty says above. Knock wood, I haven't had a leak in 3 months, since I found the right bag.

The biggest con for me is clothing and not being able to wear the same things I did before, especially low rise jeans. But that just means I got to buy all new clothes! That's a pro!!!

If you are really feeling poorly, chances are you will be so relieved with your ostomy that you wonder if you even want to get it reversed!

Good luck! - Amy

Thanks for the advice,I think its the unknown that is the problem.
If the humira does not work then stoma club here I come.
My partner wont be the only one with a designer bag lol,

My recommendation is try a new appliance on your day off where you can wear it fr a few hours before needing to leave the house.

This will give you time to make sure everything is secured properly. And avoid the stepping out of the house to grab breakfast and your room mate look at you and ask if the bottom of your shirt is supposed to be yellow, and then run back in the house to change everything back to a trusted appliance, clean up and change your clothes (I hate Convatec BTW)
