Hello everyone and thank you for all your kind wishes and messages.
I am now 10 days post op and I'm doing well.
The procedure - a right hemicolectomy was done laparoscopic and I have a 3 inch incision below my belly button through my old hysterectomy scar.

Findings - grossly thickened terminal ileum with wrapping,
Adhered to abdominal wall. Mass felt woody and suspicious. Localised nodes - taken with specimen. Rest of small bowel, caecum and ascending colon grossly normal.
Surgeon came to see me the next day and said ' No wonder you were in so much pain, it was a mess in there'

3 days post op I woke up with the most horrendous pain in lower right area, I got out of bed and was floored! I was taken for a CT scan straight away but everything was ok, apparently I just needed to fart!
When I did eventually fart, after 5 days, OMG it really hurt but it paved the way for my first BM and eventual discharge home.

So, now I rest. I have 3 months off work. I am sticking to low residue foods at the mo, bowels still sluggish, but I'm going to the toilet about 3 times a day.
I'm taking 2 paracetamol every 4 hours and it's enough for the pain.
It's worse at nightime, can't get comfy in bed, so I'm using a pillow between my knees, this helps.
One thing that has happened since my surgery, my high blood pressure is down to normal and my horrendous joint pain gone, just like that!
Lotsa luv
Joan xxx

Hi Joan
Good to hear from you. Sounds like things have gone well :) I found it difficult to get comfy in bed for a couple of weeks after too. I kind of didn't expect that with the laparoscopic surgery. I found it most comfy to be propped up on a few pillows. And yes, all my horrible lower back and general joint pain went with my dodgy bit of bowel.
Rest up, love, and heal well x

So glad to hear you are doing well considering! I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly and it is uneventful. So glad to hear your other symptoms seem better too! Take it easy and enjoy the down time as much as possible x

I'm glad to hear it went well. Nighttimes are always the hardest. Have you thought about trying a sleep med? When I've had surgery, it's not so much the pain that keeps me awake as terrible restless leg syndrome. I slept much better on prescription sleep meds.

I also had a right hemicolectomy. Mine was 1.29.14. Do you still have alot of fatigue? I feel really tired all the time. I was diagnosed with a premature abscess (nothing to drain) 2 weeks after surgery so I have been on antibiotics since, so not sure if that has something to do with it or if its just normal after surgery?
