I'm on 028 Elemental diet and I know this sounds bizarre but I think I've forgotten how to swallow properly.

I keep swallowing loads of air every time I swallow drinks and Its causing a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort, farting and bloating.

:sign0085:

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

How do I relearn how to swallow properly?

Thank you everyone

big Hugs

I haven't had that problem but it sounds awful. My only thought is, have you tried drinking with a straw? Maybe that would help. I know that helps me swallow when I have to drink something yucky like barium or colonoscopy prep.

yeah, the straw does help a bit, but unfortunately I STILL manage to swallow tonnes of air with it.

I think anxiety and stress actually make me worse, I suffer from terrible anxiety and that makes you all tense and somehow gulp air down.

Its so weird, how can you forget how to do something so basic as swallowing? I mean, we're born being able to do that aren't we? Its very uncomfortable.

Thank you for your message though, I appreciate it,

I think drinking from a straw would give you alot more gas, (thats what it does to me)
Why don't you try practicing swallowing your own saliva in the back of your throat? close your lips, create some saliva in your mouth, and back swallow it without breathing. Hope that helps
p.s or try eating some baby food with a spoon

Thank you GTR, I think that's a good idea :) Good practice.

I'm not sure of the straw helps or not to be honest, I think it depends on how I swallow, I'm just not doing it properly. It'll take some practice I think.

Thank you for your help though, I really appreciate it

There are muscles in the front of your neck closely related to jaw muscles of the mandible.

these are responsible for aligning your neck so that swallowing air does not happen.

stand upright against a wall and tilt your chin into your neck and you may feel some pulling on the back of the neck and lower back.
