I recently began taking Humira and before too long began developing wonderful cases of hives. My doctor confirmed that it was an alergic reaction to the Humira. My body sure doesn't like much these days :D Anyway, is this very common? And I've read that it's maybe possible to desensitize yourself to Humira by taking very small doses for awhile. Has anyone heard anything about that? Thank you all for your advice!

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Humira. I know I personally have to take benedryl before my injections, then get an itchy hive-like rash after for a few days, I use cortizone cream on it. I have not heard of smaller dosages to work up to it, I am not sure it would work considering the loading dosages.

What did your doc say? Have you tried remicade or Cimzia?

Where did you hear that about Humira? I would go down the road of taking an anti-histamine and if that didn't work try another biologic if you could...

i was on Humira for 2 years in the end it gave up on me,kept getting flare ups.i had a reaction at first with swelling on the belly, what i would do is get an ice-bag and apply to the area before and after injection.this might help?

is your rash like a bunch of small raised bumps on your skin? I have been on Humira for almost two weeks and now have a rash. Mine sort of has a pink cast to it around the bumps. I already had a very serious reaction to Remicade and am hoping that this is not another reaction because there are not many more options to pursue. If your reaction is similar please let me know. Thank you.

T flock,

I would show your rash to your doc. Its better to be safe than sorry dealing with injectable meds imo. My rash is hive like, pink and itches I am just glad it hasnt gotten worse as Humira is the first med in 12 years that seems to be working for me.

I started Humira around three months ago. (one pen per week) I had already used Remicade, but it did not seem to have any effects on my condition. Humira also appears to be having a negligible effect, and I plan to stop soon, especially since this sudden reaction I have had. The past three days, I have had rashes of increasing severity which all appear around 10:30 at night, and dissapear before I wake up for school at 5:45.

The first night I had pink itchy bumps on my feet and lower legs, with a few on my thighs, and one large patch on my butt. The second night, I had a rash in these same places, but it had also spread to both of my arms, particularly around my biceps, and elbow. The third day (today) the rash returned covering all of these places with the addition of pretty much my entire back from my shoulder blades to my glutes, and a few patches on my stomach & chest. I haven't reached day four yet, but I'm seriously hoping it doesn't get any worse. Hope this helps.

I began taking Humira after I had an anaphylactic reaction to a remicade infusion. After taking Humira for 1.5 months, at two week intervals, I started getting a hive at the injection site. It seems like the hives are getting worse with each dose. My doctor is going to have me take ranitidine, Zyrtec, and one other antihistamine 3 days before and after each injection. Hopefully it will alleviate the symptoms and hopefully not let them turn into a system wide reaction. Only down side is, all those antihistines are gonna cause severe drowsiness.

After about 8 weeks on Humira I got a horrible reaction to it. Hives all over and swelling......plus it didn't help my Crohn's at all.

Was on Humira for 2 months. Broke out in a rash, hives & my skin started to peel off! That was a month ago. I have never felt such pain in all my life. My doctor says it is a reaction to Humira. My face is for the most part done peeling. My scalp and legs are currently loosing layers of skin. The rest of my body is wrinkled & itchy beyond belief. I am 47 yrs old and I look like I am 87. My doctor tells me I have at least another month of the pain, itch & sheading before i will start to feel normal again. I hope nobody else has this type of reaction but if you do....just know that your not alone.
