Always this much of a set back?

I've been so good since I was diagnosed with Crohn's 3ish months ago food wise
I have completely avoided lactose, just because I tried eating yoghurts and having small amounts of milk in my tea just after I was diagnosed and every time I had one of said items it was (especially in the case of yoghurt) only minutes until I had to sprint for the toilet.
Last night I went out for dinner and chose something chickeny (asked for no cheese, raw onions etc) - Think I might have been getting a bit relaxed as my stomach has been getting better and better and it wasn't until I got home and had a look online that the chicken had milk hidden away in it.
It was a good 2 hours instead of 10 minutes - but last night and today I feel rotten, it's like i've got back to stage one - my tummy hurts again, loud gurgling, toilet trips last night, feeling like I need to go today but not going? (not like me at all) etc annoyed at myself for getting all relaxed and not checking everything properly!

Sorry for the long post - but do other people get set back so much when they eat/do something they shouldn't?

Sometimes it may not be the dairy, but the corn starch some of the sauces have in them. You can choose almond milk, instead of regular milk to add in your foods. Try taking some digestive enzymes to see if that helps, as well as probiotics. Better that timing is backing off; good sign. However, sometimes you have to test the waters and then back off that food, if it troubles you. good luck!

Well, when I first joined here, aND was at my sickest, I'd slowly gain ground... take months for this very modest, gradual improvement... then flare up and lose every gain I'd made in a matter of days. Overall, I just kept losing ground. I mean, I could see some gradual improvement... tho it took forever, but when I'd flare and lose that, I'd bottom out at a way worse place than where I started. My GI and I talk about that... neither of us wants me to ever be in that position again. Looking back, I don't know how I kept my sanity. OK, jury is still out on that one. Anyway, you are not alone. If that is any consolation. Which is why, if you find something.. drugs, diet, regimen, etc., that works, stick with it AND behave yourself. Don't take any chances with this disease.

Well its not like we can't live a little you know? If you're already in a flare then it will seem like food is the biggest factor of this disease and its really not. When the condition is under control and in remission you can eat whatever you want without having trips to the bathroom all night. But while you're in a flare, don't beat yourself up if you eat something you feel like you shouldn't have or didn't ask the waiter if there are any of these *pulls out huge list of crap I can't eat during a flare* items in it. None of this is your fault. Remember that. During a flare foods do affect you a lot but their affect wares off once you get back into your really strict no fun diet.

However if in case you don't snap back and you symptoms continue past a week (or a few days if they are seriously bad) or get worse etc. then you'll have to contact your GI and they should be able to recommend medication that will help (or change your dosage of your current med/s). Its not really a set back, its just the nature of the beast. It happens and it will get better.
