amitriptyline

I know there are people out there who take it. What dosage are you on? I'm only on 25 mg this time around. Last time I want to say I was on 75mg. I think. I'm just curious. I don't think the 25 is doing me much good at the moment, I'm still not sleeping well and not feeling much relief from depression. Doc said it would help me sleep, with my depression, and help my belly. I'm just thinking that 25 is not enough.

I was on amitriptyline, but not for depression even though I battle against it daily. My dr prescribed it in order to slow me down bowel wise. Currently I am on 40 mg of Celexa, and sometimes I question its ability in alleviating my symptoms associated with depression. Unfortunately, I think depression comes along with Crohn's and in turn triggers flares. Maybe amitriptyline isn't the right med for you. My dr put me on zoloft once, and I swear I was like a zombie. I literally just stared at the wall.lol. How long have you been on amitriptyline?

I've been on it for about 2 months now. Last time I took it I was on it for about a year. I've tried Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and prozac. I had the craziest freaking dreams with Prozac. It was creepy. Then the other two, I was on 100mg of wellbutrin, but it is apparently just the base line dosage.

I was diagnosed with Clinical depression a few years ago, and it just kind of goes in cycles. I'm currently in one of my downward spirals and just don't feel that the amitriptilyne is doing anything right now. I am going to be seeing a therapist soon though too. I'm sure that will help!

Hi Manzy,
Amitriptylline is used in different doses for different things. For pain and sedation it is 25mg. It is thought not to be effective for depression until at 75mg. Often in depression it can go up to 150mg but the dose given is often limited by side effects eg dry mouth, sedation, constipation. Some side effects are temporary but others not so.
Hope this helps.

I'm on 25 mg and have been for about a year and a half now. I agree with what Little Miss H said, 25 mg is nowhere near enough for it to work as an anti-depressant. At 25 mg, it should prevent most headaches and migraines (that's the primary reason I'm on it at that dosage), it should help you sleep at night, and it might calm your guts (personally I haven't noticed any calming of my guts with Amitriptyline). It does help me sleep and prevents my migraines and some headaches so I'm happy to stay on it, but I seriously doubt it's done anything as far as depression or guts-calming for me. Fortunately I'm in remission so I haven't been depressed lately and my guts have been calm for the most part, so I am not worried about those things personally right now anyway. But if those things are concerns to you then Amitriptyline might not be the best medication for you. Or at least 25 mg probably isn't the best dosage for you to be on. I hope that helps!
