This is intended to be a quick post, buts never that easy so.. Here goes..
Summary of events leading up to surgery..
10 years of bleeding poo / rectal tags / etc.. Hardheaded, no doctor visit, no dx..
4 years ago, finally went to rectal doc who suspected Crohn's , then GI for colonoscopy, confirmed Crohn's, no tummy pains I felt worthy of complaining about.. Just treated the rectal area w Canasa
5 months ago, noticed aching feeling in abdomen / lower right quadron / hip / groin area occasionally at night when the day consisted of lots of walking..noticed sensitive to carbonated drinks, spicy foods which is substantial for me who does not pay attention to the signs.
4 months ago, noticed strange pain in right hip / tendon when lifting the right leg to put on socks, shoes while standing..
3 months 2 wks ago, same pain recurred, only to worsen, could barely lift right left to walk due to pain - tears rolled when going down stairs. Ultimately went to ER, ct showed abscess in my psoas muscle.. Drained via catheter, removed bag after 6ish days..
3 months 1 wk ago.. Pain recurred, abscess back again, same area, another catheter and jpouch.. Kept for 10 days, by the 7th, bile and poo was draining into the bag..
3 months ago, had surgery, removed 4 inches from terminal ileum which apparently had a pin hole leaking poo.. Removed appendix. Hemoglobins got to 6.3.. got three pints of blood.. colors were crisp and vivid (eye sight) within 15 minutes of the first bag! Left hospital 6 days later, at work the next day.. (Taking it lightly of course). Things to mention.. I personally chose to throw the daladid pca out of reach in an effort to convince the nurses I needed tylenol.. Why? Because I felt great 6 hrs after surgery but then the pain crept in..what was given to me right after surgery? Tylenol. The thing is, once the doc puts u on the heavy shiz, nurses can't just adhoc give u Tylenol w/o doc approval. When they saw I did not want more drugs, but wanted effective ones (Tylenol, or in my case small hydrocodone containing 500 mg of Tylenol). After abt 12 hrs, I got Tylenol and it was all smooth sailing from there. I will note that - of all the above, the most painful part was probably when I awoke w/ ehh.. morning wood .. And I sort of.. Flexed that muscle out of habit.. And then BAM... WHOLY %#}. 30 seconds of shear pain while that muscle softened! ... It was at this point I learned I had a catheter in my uhh.. Yeah.. And.. Just to make it clear, the pain of removing the catheter was about a 2 on a scale to 10.. this was an 8, easily. Of course the nurse laughed! Lastly.. I also want to emphasize to ppl how scars heal.. If you put your palms together and then gradually put your hands together from the palms to the finger tips.. That's how your scars heal.. From the inside out. My staples were removed a bit soon or so I thought. The gap widened a bit for about a day but 2 months later, it was half the width!
Today, I feel like I am totally high off of life! I went snow boarding two weeks ago! It was pushing it a bit ( with the scar rubbing my pants etc, couldn't strap on my own board with all the layers and scar ).. So a friend helped and I took the first hill in reach ( ended up being a black diamond lol). I never thought I would have that chance again.. And now I am living it! Went from 130lbs @ discharge date to 150.5 today!! Cheese burgers, pizza, coffee, nothing phases me! Taking a shizza only once a day avg.. Never knew life could be this good. Amazing what I had become accustomed to.
I'm sure bliss won't last forever.. But I'm also sure a day of bliss won't go unappreciated here!!
All I'm taking now is asacol twice daily.
Love you guys. 3 months of bliss > 10 years of pain.
