What is YOUR weather like today??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Its pretty white today with another 10 cms of snowfall overnight. I'll try out the new electric snow shovel, its a small version of a snowblower but with the same power, light enough for me to maneuver and lift. As much as the world has changed, one thing has remained the same as it has been for milenia; having to go down stairs and toss wood into a furnace to keep the house warm.

I'm not very happy with this new posting thingy at all !!!! The format seems all wrong .If it's not broke why try to fix it ??? When David was running things we were informed about changes.I've noticed ads also, fair enough, but they don't seem to be anything to do with Crohns,,,
It was a lovely morning but there's low cloud now and looks like rain....

Hi Carol, I fully agree with you, all the text is on the left two thirds of the screen with the rest blank. The blank part is probably where the adds are. I hate advertising, so I downloaded firefox browser years ago, its a free download and use their add blockers and for the most part they do well in blocking adds. The way I see it, advertising is parasitic and invasive, I want nothing to do with it, kinda like chrons but it attacks me and the computer like a woodpecker with a power drill.
More snow than I need, I used the electric snow shovel, and that thing is powerful, shooting snow several meters into the air. The only problem is that it is rather on the heavy side, but it is one more thing I can use to move snow, a bit faster than a hand shovel. I am still waiting for the snowplow guy, seems that senior's snowplow service is a bit arthritic too.
-12 C blustery with a flurry.

Looks like a bad weekend is on the way although this morning was ok if a bit chilly. We have a Xmas market at the town square this weekend, they have the marquees up and the stage, but tomorrow looks like a disaster...not that we ever buy anything mind you,but it's a walk hahaha.
TONY...batten down the hatches Darragh;s coming for you first.Stay safe

Yeah Darragh is coming through windy enough ,but it's the west of Ireland are getting the worst of it ,
Wild and windy and 8C ,
Totally agree with you about Firefox, keeps most of the ads away

Well the xmas market is cancelled as expected. They were taking down the marquees etc. yesterday in anticipation of Darragh's arrival...trust an Irishman to spoil the party !!! (kidding Tony) So that's my xmas festivities over....thankfully. Looking out of the window it doesn't look as bad as it could be,rain but not a lot of wind..maybe later.

Stay safe Carol ,Darragh is a nasty bugger , we were lucky the wind was in the right direction, so no trees ended up in the roof ,
Did I see you recommending magnesium? If you are taking it what dose , chemist said 500mg was fine but everything online suggests 250/350mg max 😕

I take 2 500mg daily about one hour before bed.It really has helped with sleep. You can split them if you like.....It's lashing down here with gusty winds but luckily no trees on our street, Have only seen about six people pass the window all day when usually it's pretty busy having the park nearby. Are you sitting in the garden wearing your wet suit and snorkel ?

Storms are not named over here, but then again they are only snow storms, harmless in comparison to the storms you guys get that are fueled by the ocean with high winds and heavy rains, like they do with hurricanes to the south. Still waiting for the snow plow service, I inquired, but nobody is calling me back. Since I am snowed in, my neighbor took my grocery list and will bring me groceries. Nasa pushed back their estimated time line to land people on the moon. By the time they do we will be long gone. I don't think we will ever see rockets carrying people, but rather rockets carrying nukes given the state this world is in. -12C snowy and quiet.

I logged in here and saw that my post from yesterday is still in the que because I forgot to post reply. If forgetting were a sport I would win gold. The senior snowplowing service is real after all, I went out and found the driveway nicely plowed. That gives me confidence, we are expecting more snow in the coming days, nothing like the big big storms that cause damage in your area. Winter is pretty peaceful here, although it can be inconvenient at times.
-6 C snow and ice pellets.

Thanks for that Carol ,will keep with the 500mg for a while as it seems to be having and effect on my output 🤢
Rough day and night yesterday , up the country really got hammered , over 300,000 without power and trees down all over the place ,now going near the water for a few days as load of runoff makes the water dodgy .
6C windy and bright got a walk near the water with the boss and the puppy ,
Had to go early as she's just come into season ,have to keep all the local romeos away from her for the next few weeks 🙃

It's not quite as bad here as it was yesterday, but bad enough.Heavy showers and strong blustery winds.Being sensible by staying at home, but going stir crazy ,thank goodness I'm a reader. Les's social care calling in tomorrow so I hope it's a flying visit so that we can get out for a while

Snow fall warnings posted this morning with anything from 15 to 30 cms coming. It will be just snow, so nothing destructive other than some inconveniences like power outages and road closures. I need to go for a good walk, or perhaps a ski would be better as everything is snow covered. Sounding like a better idea now as I think about it.
-10C Cloudy.

Another bright cold day with strong winds ,4C but feels a lot colder ,
Off out for a walk now ,
BP is dropping slowly but it's dropping ,today it was 112/86
I think the magnesium is helping as well Carol 🩺

Your BP is perfect Tony, keep up whatever it is that you are doing. If I can keep mine at 130 over 90 I am satisfied. Exercise and diet help me with it. This snow we got overnight will keep me working. 20 cms so far with some more to come. Now the concern is ice build up on the roof from ice dams, and the workers who have to go up there to shovel don't come cheap.

Thanks Bufford it's great to see the second one going under 90,
It's a pain having to pay someone to do work that a few years ago would have been no bother ,
That's life I suppose ,can't take the chance of falling off a roof at our age ,
It's not that long ago I was up and down ladders and roofs like a monkey ,happy days

When I look back at what I used to do compared to now, how frail one becomes as we go through the senior years. A grocery store trip used to be a breeze and fun, now its become a chore. I shoveled snow yesterday, but what used to be a one afternoon job now takes two. But life in the slow lane is not so bad when I don't have to deal with the daily pressures anymore. -12 C with a passing flurry.

It's supposed to be a bit foggy today 47 and 38 tonight. But, right now it's sunny and beautiful!! Glad that today is my Saturday, although have some sniffles and onset of a bit of a cold again. These biologics are gonna drive me nuts with these cold symtoms so often this winter!!!

Well remember the biologicals, they helped me for a couple of years ,but you were prone to small colds ,feel better soon.

Yeah, one thing I hate about these. But for the complaints, gotta admit that these seem to be doing well on me for the most part to the point of helping me gain some weight. So, I guess I can't complain too much even though I want to!!! Thanks! 🤗

Cold, grey and miserable..off to the dentist...wish I hadn't cancelled my last apt in August,it would be over now....hindsight's a wonderful thing eh?
I have found vitamins K2, D3, and C (C for gum health) especially helpful for dental health.

Rinsing with sodium carbonate added water is also helpful.

Dentist experiences are generally unpleasant, best to do whatever it takes to not need them. Good luck.

I failed Remicade with a bad reaction causing med induced Lupus, giving me respect towards biologics and hence shy of taking that route, and went the natural route of diet and an active lifestyle with good results. I hate the damp cold when temperatures are at or just above the freezing point, it drains the heat from my body. We are in a cold snap, -27C early this morning. I plugged in the block heater on the truck to get supplies, wood furnace running steady. Its -25C now with brilliant sunshine under cobalt blue skies. Its cold, but with the air being dry it is really not so bad. Cold weather helps control the destructive insects in our boreal forests.

That’s harsh weather. Very stressful, compared to places with milder weather.

If I could afford it, for health, I’d seriously consider moving to a sunnier area with generally milder weather in winters.

It’s good the air is dry though at least, much healthier than humid and/or windy air.
It takes a lot of firewood to heat the place, as I cannot afford the overtaxed fuel oil. Summer weather is preferred over the cold and I have thoughts about moving to Mexico, both for a warmer climate and better standard of living where taxes are lower with less government overreach.
I went for a ski to the lake and back, it felt good, but my strength is less than last year prior to the surgery. -22C Sunny

have thoughts about moving to Mexico
That’s exactly what I was going to suggest in my post but for some reason I refrained from posting it.

I have heard Mexico isn’t as good as it used to be compared to just a few years ago, but still much preferable as the climate, foods, prices, culture and society are warmer, more welcoming and more humane.

Darkness and cold are significant stressors on the body and mind, that’s why many who live under those conditions succumb to self-medicating with alcohol; but that’s the enemy, as it makes one weaker and creates a downward spiral.

Mexico has a welcoming feeling, the culture, the friendliness and helpfulness of these people have warmed my heart. The cost of living is a fraction of that here, and surprisingly their healthcare is pretty good.
The problem is that being older, and with health conditions making such a move would not be easy at this stage in life. I guess one could just pack a suitcase and go.
-8C cloudy and rather paltry with the winds.

It's very tempting to head towards the sun here as well ,
Portugal's silver coast would be our place to go , nice weather, wonderful people and a much lower cost of living ,
With the cost of property here in Ireland we could sell up and buy a villa with a pool ,
But I think we would miss the fridged swims in the winter AND "Summer " ,
Anyway its a balmy 10C ,overcast and calm ,
And the better news is my BP has stayed stable over the last week ,
Today was 107/75 , I think I'll live to fight another day .

Hover the icon over the typo, right click on it and it should offer a correction word. We had an outage, and after I moved the generator outside I saw a mouse sitting there on the floor where the generator sat. I showed the cat the mouse, she sniffed it and gave the mouse a gentle lick like it was her kitten. So much for being a mouser when her maternal instinct kicks in with her gentle love for any living thing. I didn't have the heart to toss the mouse out into the cold, it can live with the cat. I cleaned the chimney, without getting covered in soot this time. Amazing things happen when the memory is working.
Milder today, that damp weather not good for the bones -3C.

When I first got her she was like any other regular cat and caught mice, but over the years like many pets, she took after her owner, and at my stage in life I've got a very soft heart. That little ball of a mouse seemed so vulnerable when exposed after I rolled the generator away even the cat felt sorry for it. I'm in hibernation mode, another day of the mild dark damp weather before colder drier air is expected, along with sunshine that will tempt me to put on the skis. I could use some exercise after being stuck in the house.
0C Gray, with that damp cutting wind.

13c and a bit windy,,,,been to the supermarket for the last grocery shop,it's getting mad now.will walk into town for fresh bread at the weekend,Nothing special with the groceries, same as any other shop, but got myself a few treats (if I can stop myself stuffing my face before the festivities begin)

Nothing wrong with starting the festivities with a few treats before hand Carol, as holidays don't come around often enough. We have a bit of excitement going on here with the gong show our government is in, and good, I've had enough of them digging into our bread baskets, leaving only crumbs. The weather is dryer and colder, but not frigid, I'll get a few things done outside. The frigid air comes a bit later with time for some skiing. -7C with a passing flurry.

I was just wondering Buff, does ski-ing make your old leg joints ache ? Or are you used to it ? I know my legs, hips and knees ache when I walk or stand for too long, and I've walked and stood my whole life. All our holidays were spent walking and I walked an average 8-10 miles a day with the dogs, and cycled two or three times a week....maybe that's the reason and I should have sat on my bum all day.Having said that,I don't let pain stop me from being as active as I can be,like you and Aquaman...

Dull and cold here , so watched the boss swimming and went for a small walk with our in heat puppy , had to avoid about 20 dogs ,and she was acting like a right little tramp thought it would be quiet at 8 in the morning ,Anyway 4C and cold

Carol, my legs are pretty good and do not hurt for the most part. My hands though do hurt, from working all my life, and the firewood effort probably doesn't help. I would like to go for a ski today as conditions are good with temperatures in the minus teens, but I have to wait until after the doctor calls on the phone in appt later. Careful Tony, your family members may increase in the blink of an eye.
-17C breezy with sunshine.

Beautiful day today after 40 days and nights of rain!!! Or, at least it seems like it was that way!! Today is supposed to be about 55 degrees here. Nice thing is that today is my Saturday, so won't get soaked if we go outside today. Mostly exhausted, got some of the regular chores to do and delivery of giift bags to neighbors/friends today and tomorrow. Rest of presents will go to my parents and sister next week...

Had a bad night last night , without thinking yesterday I ate an easy peel orange and didn't chew it properly, had a partial blockage and won't be eating oranges again 🙃,
Sometimes you forget that you have to be careful what you eat ,
Anyway nice enough day here 8C with some sunshine 🌞

Don't know what started me off today but I was ill this morning.....must have been in the bathroom for 45mins then back and forwards between 7 & 9 am. It does pass, and I know that, but when I'm prepping meals etc it's pretty stressful. My hands were red with constant washing and I must have done my 10,000 steps hahaha.
weather not to bad and managed to walk into town and back for my last shop....Buff....MINUS 22c ? OMG !!!

Went for a ski yesterday, the ice is good on the lake which let me ski farther to the usual places I go. I found myself much weaker than I used to be, but still able to go. Its to be expected after all this body went through. Carol, that is 22 good reasons to keep the fire going, last night it went down to -27C. Since I have to get up regularly through the nights, the fire never gets a chance to die down to leave me chilled. Get up, pee, feed the fire and repeat as needed until day break.

There no edit button anymore, as I wanted to say to Tony, that Orange juice is a good alternative to oranges, more so with Rum and some ice added. I like to put on an extra log on the fire, and have a rum n orange in the evening while listening to a CD or two on the stereo. Reminds me of the trips I took south to the Caribbean.

It was the first whole orange I tried in about ten years, from now on I'll stick to the juice ,
Anyone else get an invitation to donate to the site , is this a new thing 🤔,
10C and a nice enough day ,Got out for a walk but like you Bufford my energy levels are still not great,

Yeah, I got the same message. I'm not sure about "donating" to something that should be free for us to support each other. To each their own though...
51 today and it's supposed to be rainy all day the next few days.
What’s more, and may be linked to that donation issue, is the new admin’s irresponsible attitude towards a “problem” that wasn’t there, ever before, in this forum. He has made numerous promises, seemingly apologises, but doesn’t address the issue and acts like nothing has happened, keeps on going creating a new thread about “hobbies and interests”.

Maybe I’m old school, but I have always measured a fellow man’s worth first and foremost through how much of a man of his words he is.

To me, since he still hasn’t solved this problem even though he promised to, even giving a date to solve it a few times, and his non-transparent attitude seem suspicious and makes me question for some time now whether he deliberately cancelled the editing, especially since the emboldened part is the only selling point of a payed membership “benefits”

IMG_3805.jpeg

Running a forum is a somewhat risky business (if you approach it as a business), it is pricey; and I wouldn’t have any issues with donations etc, I think it’s a reasonable way of keeping the site running; but not like this.

If he is genuine about fixing the disappearance of the editing option, but he cannot achieve that due to whatever, he should’ve explained that openly and sincerely. Instead he keeps promising he will fix it by this day or that day, apologizing etc but nothing gets fixed and doesn’t acknowledge or give explanations for him not keeping the promises he made.

Alternatively, he could have written “this is my forum, I bought it, this is the way things will be” and I would have no issues with that either. I would simply stop using his forum.

Yes Tony,I had a request....I thought it might have been a scam.
Pretty cold wind today and that's me not cursing.Went to the park for half an hour but was really really glad to be home.....heating on,bums on seats

Went for a walk as well feckin freezing strong north wind and 2C with sunshine ,loved it ,
Went(dragged) to the shops , absolutely bedlam ,you would swear there was a famine coming , every shop people with trolleys piled high with food ,
We do it simple , roast chicken potato stuffing roast spuds and sprouts with gravy on Christmas Eve ,eat whats left on Christmas Day and then back to normal .

Site problems whatever, it was irritating the other day when I needed to edit but could not, these are basic tools, the other thing Chronies live on a Chron's income which isn't much. Charity starts at home. A word to this site's owner; When forums get difficult to navigate, begging for money, clogged with adds that means my posts are worthless, I log out and move on.

Anyways, I want to say to Tony, that I still eat oranges, I cut them into slices, suck the juices from them and spit out all the pulp. That pulp would give me grief if I swallowed it. The energy level isn't there, but that is expected when one is living with fewer parts. At least it starts and runs.
The stores are chaos, I did a major supply run, so all that I need are the basics, and sometimes the neighbor goes in and picks them up for me, saving me the trip, and wading through crowds. I'm doing a public favor, because nobody wants to be behind an old gray beard in the aisles.

I feel quite sad about the whole situation frankly.....I'm a techno-phobe and was quite proud of myself to find this forum and have enjoyed an almost daily catch-up with friends, who have been a great help and comfort to me,as I hope I have been to them......a lot of friends have gone and I fear I will lose more soon due to this new thing.....anyway...6c and grey today......

For now I am not going anywhere, for there is nowhere to go, and despite the degradation of this site it is still working for now. Its been a very quiet holiday season so far, usually the snowmobiles are out in swarms, but with the exception of a few. Maybe its the cost of living, for there is more than enough snow and the lakes are well frozen. A slow day coming up, I may go for a ski later.
-10C gray with a passing flurry.

Milder with full cloud cover and although not raining the streets are damp.....I'm tired, bored, depressed and my aches are aching, but apart from that, all's well for now.....Have prepped three days lunches for Les so I'm all done until Friday....TV progs are appalling, they want horse whipping,,,Close Encounters,Zulu,The Great Escape and James Bond and Harry Potter, plus hundreds of cartoons for the little ones....Baa Humbug....Have a Happy Turkey and stuff xmas......BUT Peace On Earth to all men ,keep well and don't overdo things...xxx

I do enjoy reading your daily weather reports ....Bufford, Tony H and scottsma! I suppose because it's so different from mine. 😉
hello and welcome...I think we in the UK are pretty lucky.Although the climate is changing we don't really get any extreme weather and when we do it doesn't last long, but we still like a moan, that's what we're famous for hahaha.....Merry Christmas..

I do enjoy reading your daily weather reports ....Bufford, Tony H and scottsma! I suppose because it's so different from mine. 😉
Welcome aboard. I envy those who live in Texas for both the climate and lifestyle there. We live in a cold climate, with short summers. If one likes the snow, this is a good region to live in with about 6 months of snow on the ground. Its very rural where I live, mostly lakes and wilderness.
-12C Partly cloudy

Thank you all, you're a welcoming group! Don't envy too much though, summers can be brutal here in central Texas. But I would never survive in the weather you guys live in. But I do enjoy reading you... what did scottsma say?... "moan" about it!!! Y'all have a Merry Christmas today. I'm off to a Christmas Day worship service shortly. Oh yes, its 56F and cloudy. Had some hail last night as front arrived!! Now remember everyone, we're Crohn's sufferers, so watch what you eat today!

Hey PC TX , nice day here in Cobh , kitchen full of smoke , decided to try Jamie Olivers method to cook a leg of lamb and I never saw so much smoke , hopefully its worth it ,
12c overcast but lovely and calm , happy Christmas Carol , Bufford , Cross Stitch Gal and PC TX , hope everyone has a peaceful , safe and healthy Christmas(holiday )

very true about watching what we eat , at this stage I just have to watch out for blockages as surgery has ridden me of all my colon , have a lovely peaceful Christmas

A very mild day.12c with plenty sunshine and blue sky,We had a walk to the new embankment on the river,It;s on a bank where in the past fishermen and families lived in tenements in poverty, with no proper sanitation or running water etc. Those slums were demolished early 1900s and grassed over ,but the steep steps were left more or less in place,As a girl I didn't think twice about the climb,up or down, but now I'm over the hill it's a struggle. Now it's a zig-zag gentle path, with seats at every corner to rest and enjoy the view of the river and out to sea, and is suitable for disability scooters and prams etc and the old and decrepit, Best wishes all sending hugs to you.x

Hi there, back at ya, 👋
I'm worried... a kitchen full smoke??? Hope you got control of that...problem... so, was the leg of lamb edible? 🤭 Just teasing.

That was a nice historical description of your walk. I like to read 1800s British fiction. The writers aways sweep you up into the story with similar detailed descriptions. It's easy to imagine you're there.

Welcome! I'm sure these guys/gals do laugh at me a bit too since I also use degrees rather than C's!!! Here it's 52F today and rainy which is a bit warmer than it usually is this time of year. Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!!!
Cross-Stitch gal,
Is your username a clue to a hobby you enjoy? That's a craft I tried many years ago, but found it takes great seeing eyes and patience! I sew, not quite so rough on the eyes! 😊

Yes, I learned how to Cross-stitch when I was around 9 years old and still do it as an adult in my 40's! Although, I don't cross-stitch as much anymore. However, now I have other crafts that I happen to create to give away when time alllows.
That seems to be the way of many crafter. It has been for me as well. I've settled mostly with sewing now.

Another nice day at 10c and no wind which keeps the temps up.We had a walk to the park and fed the birds,It's impossible to feed them all of course but every little helps.......sorry to say I'm NOT a crafter in the least.I use iron on hem stuff and can just about sew on a button,,,,but I'm an avid reader....

tried to "like" Buffs post but the begging/asking request was in the way....no matter, I totally agree with Buff's thread. This forum has not asked for "payment" as long as I've been a member but if people want to donate, that's fine....Just PLEASE don't interfere with the threads with your requests....It's beginning to feel like a DEMAND

The neighbor put on a good dinner with a big turkey with all the fixings, I ate too much and had a lousy night last night. It was worth it, we all had a good time. Its been a quiet holiday, despite the snow cover very few are riding snowmobiles this year, usually its buzzing like a bee's nest around here.

I don't know what to make of it, but ignore it for now, same as the biting flies we get in the summer months.
