Analgesics

Hello. Sometimes I need analgesics for my headaches but 500mg paracetamol can't stop my pain, so I use 5 mg of NSAID like ibuprofen. I know NSAIDs are risky for Crohn's Disease but this is the only way(I can't use opioid drugs)for me and the dose of ibuprofen is very small and also working excellent. Do you think using 5mg NSAID would be harmful for my Gastrointestinal area, my disease?

NSaid is always a tricky thing to deal with. I know how great it works for headache but I personally decided to never take them again. I use to take them prior to my diagnosis and I went through a period where I would take a few prior to my second flare so I've associated it with bad luck regarding my digestive condition. When I had that discussion with my GI, he said it was ok for me to take 1 pill a month (my migraines are mostly hormonal) but that he would suggest me to avoid any additional intake of it. So that, in itself, had me thinking It would probably be best to avoid it overall.

What are these 5mg pills? I've never heard of such a low dosage of ibuprofen.

I am not sure I understand what answer you are looking for. NSAID's can be harmful, even a low dose like 5mg. It is important to talk to your doctor about how much you can take. If you have a history of bleeding, or have ulcers, it is not safe to take any amount of ibprofen because aspirin is a blood thinner and it would be harder to stop or control intestinal bleeding. May I ask how your making the pills?

Hi Crohn2357. Normally Ibuprofen comes in 200mg pills so 5mg is very low and honestly I'm surprised it does anything for your pain (are you sure that it is?). When I spoke to my GI about taking Ibuprofen he said to try and keep it limited but to be aware that it could cause ulcers. I still take it on occasion and haven't had any issues over the years thus far. Always talk to your doctor about it though and see what they have to say.

Thanks for replies. In my country, there is 25mg pill form of NSAID. I divide them.
