anemia

I've only heard the word one other time which was when i was in the hospital for c diff. My nurse just called with my blood results and its still showing im anemic. He suggested a multivitamin with iron. Does anyone else have problems with this? Is it common or something to worry about?

It's fairly common for people with a chronic illness, and for women, and for people that don't eat iron rich foods- red meat and leafy green vegetables. The only slight problem is that sometimes iron can upset your digestive system, so try and find a supplement that is gentle on the stomach. And try to take it at a different time to your vit D, as they can interfere with absorption.

I'm constantly anaemic. I assume it will get better because of the surgery. Take your iron with food at at a different time than all the other supplements. The food will help buffer any stomach issues that may arise.

Nothing to worry about.

It's nothing to worry about as long as you are good about taking your iron supplements. Depending on how anemic you are, you're most likely experiencing alot of fatigue, but as your anemia goes away you'll begin to feel much more energized. Red meats and foods rich in Vitamin B can be very helpful in red blood cell production, too.

My CD was diagnosed due to ongoing anemia. Once he had my diagnosis confirmed, my GI doctor said of course I was anemic, because that tends to go with the CD due to the internal bleeding in the small intestine. I'm on an iron supplement and it has really helped.
