anemia?

Just been to see my specialist today and he told me that after looking at my blood results im aneamic and he's presribed me some iron tablets. anyone else on here who is anemic? i have in the past been getting ridiculous fatigue and shortness of breath at times so i take it this is all linked? on a plus side he told me my "crp" is back to a normal level for the first time since i was diagnosed which i take is good news? :)

I am always slightly amemic ....Did he mention you needing B12 in addition to the iron? B12 is also instrumental in the production of red blood cells. It is absorbed primarily in the terminal ileum, so you can can issues.....Take your iron with a source of Vit. C. Iron needs vit. C inorder to be absobed. If you can't tolerated OJ, get a chewable Vit. C tablet.....Good luck.....Fatigue is the worst!!

this showed up during initial blood tests early in my diagnosis. I did not have enough of my Ileum removed to necessitate B12 shots at this time, and I am no longer showing anemia. But I do notice I feel weak and have a headache when I start skipping my multi-vitamin. The nutritionist I was assigned to as part of my recuperation was adamant about me taking a multi-vitamin.

My MIL has had Crohn's for over 20 years and is approaching her third surgery. She has to have the B12 as she can't get enough out of her food intake any longer.

I would suggest eating more iron rich foods than taking iron supplements. Those iron supplements can really do harm to the GI tract. They turned my poo to like a charcoal color when I was taking them, and they did nothing for upping my hemoglobin or serum ferritin levels.

So, try and eat more meat, steak, and I know it's gross, but Liver and other organ meats are by far the most nutrient dense foods when it comes to iron (and most other nutrients actually).
