My story eh? I never know what to write for these things. It's not a terribly exciting story.

Mid-March 2002 (almost exactly 5 years ago) I go to the local clinic with acute abdominal pain. I was afraid it was appendicitis. The clinic staff was too and sent me down to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA. When I got there, they took an MRI of my guts and concluded that my appendix had burst. Off to emergency surgery with me. It went as well as that sort of thing can go. A few days later, the surgeon comes to my room and tells me it wasn't appendicitis after all. It was a perforated section of bowel that looked like old, cracked red leather and that was leaking icky bowel contents. It was something called Crohn's Disease that I had never even heard of before. Apparently It had been there for years undiagnosed and untreated before this.

I couldn't get a Gastroenterologist to see me for the longest time. I finally found one in 2006. I have been seeing her regularly ever since. Not much new to tell here. I have had the usual meds. Entocort for a while at first. The Asacol which I couldn't tolerate. Back to Entocort. Then Pentasa which I am still taking. After the last colonoscopy, she wasn't satisfied with the state of things or the job the Pentasa was doing so now I take 6-mp and sit around with an IV in my arm for 3 hours or so every so often. I am also seeing a Neurologist now for neuropathy pain. I suspect a vitamin b-12 deficency but the jury is still out on that one. The number of possible causes of peripheral neuropathy is kind of mind boggling.

This week - Neurologist for more tests and blood tests for the GI doc
Next week - Routine visit to the Gastroenterologist for the usual routine stuff
after that - follow up with the neurologist, Remicade time and, oddly, a non-CD related dentist appointment for a routine cleaning. That will be novel.
and so on. I am sure everyone here knows the routine. I am getting rather tired of going to medical appointments every week though.

I am also in the middle of quitting smoking. Let me tell you. it's a joy. Almost as much fun as the colonoscopy prep.

That's about it. Perhaps a bit

Hello and welcome to the Forum!!

One thing I have found with this disease...
is that you need a good sense of humor...and that you have!! :ylol2:

I know you will find lots of reading material here...
make some friends, meet interesting people, and fellow Crohnies.

Make yourself at home...anything you need, questions, or just to chat..
just holler, someone is usually around.

Once again....welcome!!
Hugs~Nancy

Hey local! Where in Yosemite? I mean IN Yosemite? We are located in Squaw Valley, heading up to our other National Parks (Kings Canyon & Sequoia). Welcome . . . Have you tried getting to see any docs. in Fresno? It's a bit longer drive, but we have a couple FABULOUS GI clincs in the area . . . I am with one and we have another member from Visalia who is with another. If you ever need a second opinion, let us know and we can suggest some of the Fresno Docs.

What do you do in/near Yosemite? I haven't been there since the early 90's. Maybe I should make a point of visiting. I have, though, been to Cedar Grove quite a bit and it's rather on the similar side, but with lots less people. Have you been over to HetchHetchy? THAT'S a place I would like to see, even though most of what you see is lake. I think maybe this year in June it would be good to go to see HetchHetchy. Any advice?

Again, welcome to the forum.

Again, welcome to the forum.

In scenic Yosemite Valley generally around where the Visitor Center is.

I grew up in Sanger, Ca. I am sure you know where that is since it's right off the 180 between where you are and Fresno.

My current doc is in Fresno. All 3 of them are actually. I am starting a collection. So far I have a General Practioner, a Gastroenterologist and a Neurologist. There is only a small walk-in clinic up here. No specialists or anything like that.

I work for the concession company as a paper pusher. I mean, auditor. Same thing. I have been to Hetch Hetchy but not so far this year. I usually go south to Fresno rather than northwards. It has been a dry year. Sooner is probably better for Hetch Hetchy this year. The more water there is in the reservoir, the better. Evergreen Lodge is a nice play to stay in that area. It isn't cheap but still considerably less than hotels in the park and much closer to Hetch Hetchy.

There are also places like Yosemite Lakes for camping. The Yosemite Lakes on highway 120. Not the other Yosemite Lakes on Highway 41.

The Hetch Hetchy road is only open from 7am to 9pm daily. It isn't open overnight.

If you are going to stay at a campground inside the park (probably Hodgon Meadows campground since it's by far the closest) be sure to book in advance. Competition for camp sites can get fierce. There is a campground in Hetch Hetchy but it's a backpackers campground with fewer than 20 camp sites and you can't reserve a site there. Here is some...stuff

Thanks for all the info. My birthday is coming soon early in June and I think I may just make my husband drag me all the way to HetchHetchy for a day trip.

Who's your GI doc? Mine's the GI Group on Fresno St. just behind the colonoscopy center.

Our neighbors across the street from us lived in Sanger for years and years (Allen Beazly & Julie Sydney). I also went to college with a guy from Sanger (the Larrabee family). I shop often in Sanger and Reedley when I don't wanna go ALL the way to Fresburg or Visalia.

So, HEY! From the hometown! Now I will stop hijacking your thread.
Welcome to the board!

Drag you all the way there? Sounds tiring. *rimshot*

My GI doc is the right medical Dr. Ambreen Khurshid, MD, Gastroenterology/ Internal Medicine.

Colonoscopy center? There's a colonoscopy center in Fresno? I have always gone to Plaza Surgical Center out by Saint Agnes for that.

I have Dr. Hanchett at the GI Medical Group. He's good, and understated which I needed.

Yes, we have a special Colonoscopy / Endoscopy Center located on Fresno St. between Barstow and Bullard. That's pretty much all they do all day, just those. It's very nice and they keep good records which you can get from them rather easily and quickly.

Hi and welcome to the forum old hat... it's me, your distant cousin.. old fart. Maybe not.. Hey, let me know how the quittin tobacco works for you, OK? My GI won't let me quit just yet. It can be a bit discouraging when your life seems to revolve around your Dr's visits. Just that this disease seems to demand all ones focus.. that's all. No yawner.. not long winded like mine. Anyway, welcome to the forum cousin Take care
