My story eh? I never know what to write for these things. It's not a terribly exciting story.
Mid-March 2002 (almost exactly 5 years ago) I go to the local clinic with acute abdominal pain. I was afraid it was appendicitis. The clinic staff was too and sent me down to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA. When I got there, they took an MRI of my guts and concluded that my appendix had burst. Off to emergency surgery with me. It went as well as that sort of thing can go. A few days later, the surgeon comes to my room and tells me it wasn't appendicitis after all. It was a perforated section of bowel that looked like old, cracked red leather and that was leaking icky bowel contents. It was something called Crohn's Disease that I had never even heard of before. Apparently It had been there for years undiagnosed and untreated before this.
I couldn't get a Gastroenterologist to see me for the longest time. I finally found one in 2006. I have been seeing her regularly ever since. Not much new to tell here. I have had the usual meds. Entocort for a while at first. The Asacol which I couldn't tolerate. Back to Entocort. Then Pentasa which I am still taking. After the last colonoscopy, she wasn't satisfied with the state of things or the job the Pentasa was doing so now I take 6-mp and sit around with an IV in my arm for 3 hours or so every so often. I am also seeing a Neurologist now for neuropathy pain. I suspect a vitamin b-12 deficency but the jury is still out on that one. The number of possible causes of peripheral neuropathy is kind of mind boggling.
This week - Neurologist for more tests and blood tests for the GI doc
Next week - Routine visit to the Gastroenterologist for the usual routine stuff
after that - follow up with the neurologist, Remicade time and, oddly, a non-CD related dentist appointment for a routine cleaning. That will be novel.
and so on. I am sure everyone here knows the routine. I am getting rather tired of going to medical appointments every week though.
I am also in the middle of quitting smoking. Let me tell you. it's a joy. Almost as much fun as the colonoscopy prep.
That's about it. Perhaps a bit
of a yawner
