Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum since I found it on the internet. I guess I should start with an introduction.
My name is Missy. I'm 18 years old and live in Maine. I have had Crohns disease since I was 10. My mom was also diagnosed with Crohns when she was younger. I am just about to graduate from high school and am getting ready for college. I was first diagnosed with Crohns disease when my mom noticed my frequent bathroom visits (15-20 a day!) I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy right away which was harder then it looked! I was 10 years old and weighed under 80 pounds. After having to fast for one day, I ended up blacking out. A couple days after, my results came in and I was diagnosed with modern-sever Crohns. It is near impossible for me to gain weight, even when I feel okay! I'm extremely active with tennis, horseback riding and I dance. I have has Ovarian Cysts 3 or 4 times and had a few stomach ulcers when I was first diagnosed. My doctor let me keep the images of my colonoscopy and now that I'm old enough to understand them, they're actually really interesting.
I was started on Pentasa. My symptoms started to clear up and for the first time, 3 years ago, I was able to stay at a three night camp and was fine. Since then, my Crohns has turned it's ugly head again. Looking into colleges is very hard! It's hard to find dorms that have private bathrooms in them. I was accepted to Colby-Sawyer College (my dream school) but we recently found the price too high for my mom and I. I will be attending University of Southern Maine.
My Crohns is bad once again but is slowly improving. I now take 6 (200 mL?) Pentasa and 2 acidophilus a day but it doesn't seem to be doing what it used to. I take imodium when I need it (any time I leave the house.) It seems like my imodium doesn't do anything anymore. I usually have to take 4 a day and we're thinking that my body was gotten too used to it. I need to leave myself 2-3 hours after I take it, just to make sure (help!)
Since I have entered my senior year, my Crohn's is effecting me mentally as well! I have missed out of many get togethers and its taking a big toll on me.:depressed:
Sorry for ranting. Looking forward to talking to you all!
Edited to fix: It's actually 6; 500 mL capsules
