another surgery question

How long after your surgery before your symptoms came back/you had to get another surgery?

I had surgery in August 2010 and symptoms started up again just a few months ago. After my surgery, the GI said I could be symptom free from 5-20 years however I managed about 15 months :frown:

I had a bowel resection in 2000 and started getting symptoms again about a year ago. That is a long stretch, I think. I don't need more surgery yet. Fingers crossed, I won't in the foreseeable future!

Oh man. I really hope I'm lucky and get relief for longer then a year at least. This morning I woke up with a ton of red blood in my stool with a lot of abdominal pain, I'm hoping there are so surgery complications because I am eating fine and it didn't hurt to pass the stool. Ugh I don't know :/

tishbite, Are you planning on surgery. What I mean is did the doctors tell you that you need surgery? Also what medications are you currently taking? Usually they don't do surgery unless it is a last resort.
OK reading other posts i see you had the surgery already. So ya, I had 10 really good years. I hope you do too. :thumleft:

I have already had my surgery a little over 2 weeks ago. Everything seems to be healing up fine but I woke up in pain this morning with a lot of red blood in my stool. I talked to my surgeon and he said I should be ok and not to worry unless I start being unable to tolerate food (i'm tolerating food just fine right now) so I'm going to just keep an eye on the blood. I had a terrible stricture before the surgery that kept me from eating and living normally so the surgery has been great so far in terms of what my body can tolerate now. I'm going back on Humira and methotrexate which I was on before the surgery. I'm just worried now about trying to keep my inflammation down so that my symptoms don't come back anytime soon.

I am remembering back to right after my surgery before the azothiaprine kicked in and there were 2 scary times when I had bad abdominal pain and I went back to the hospital. They checked me out and said everything was ok. I looks like you are doing all the right things. Try not to worry too much. You don't need stress.

Hi, I had my op in Sept '11 and starting having a few grumbles about 6-8 weeks later. Full blown flare up at 10 weeks post op. To be fair though I had stopped the Methotrexate in June so I had gone quite a while without any treatment for the crohns. Unfortunately it is not something I can handle with diet (tried this soooo many times) so really a med is needed for me.

Having crohns for over 20 years I have learned (the hard way) just how important it is to take the meds prescribed.

Both of my kids are on maintenance medication and have been since surgery, they have also been in remission post surgery. Sarah since July 2006 and Matt since last April.

I've been in remission for just over 2 years and am not on any maintenance drugs at all.

That is a warning. Regardless of what the surgeon says, I would certainly get in touch with the GI or IBD nurse if this continues tomorrow. I think perhaps you maybe need to eat less solids for a bit? Not fun I know.

In answer to your question, I lasted 6 months without meds. Stan is wonderful, but didnt 'fix' me yet unfortunately. Stess did it to me.
