Antibiotics for sinus infection?

So DD had sinus infection symptoms for a few weeks but I didn't give her an antibiotic because I wanted to see if it was just a virus and would go away by itself. It seemed to but now a week or two later, symptoms are back: sinus headache, dizziness, stuffy nose, low grade temp. I'm wondering if it's the Remicade causing this (via immunosuppression). DS has been on Remicade for over a year and he never seems to get whatever is going around (THANK GOD). Wondering if it's time to start the Zpack...I just hate to give her antibiotics unless she HAS to have them. She's fine otherwise (again THANK GOD no flare symptoms). Any advice, experience, suggestions appreciated!

I'd ask your pediatrician or GI - generally for regular kid stuff, the GI will send you to your pediatrician.

My daughter has had several sinus infections in the last couple years. I've asked if it's related to being on biologics, but her pediatrician does not think so. It seems like every cold turns into a sinus infection and then she needs antibiotics (but thankfully, she only gets one cold a year).

I worry every time she's on antibiotics since she's had CDiff in the past, but so far, so good! She just had a sinus infection in February which required a Zpack and then another course of abx before it went away. It was a miserable two weeks! But her Crohn's did not flare and no CDiff!

Has she seen her Ped ?
Remicade does not cause you to catch a cold
Just makes you to have a higher risk of oportunistic infections
Let us know what the Ped and Gi say
We contact both

My son started Z pack yesterday for sinus infection both GI and Ped okay'd it. He has been sick for the last 2 weeks. He is rarely sick. They also did not like the sound of his lungs. Didn't hear wheezing but said they were "crackly" whatever that means. He just had his infusion on Tuesday. We also started probiotics. Taking antibiotic in the evening and probiotic in the morning.
Hope she is feeling better soon.

I am the same, I held off for weeks for my son's infected toe because I didn't want antibiotics. Had to give in and it was all fine

My kid was given a zpack by his pediatrician for a sinus infection. We ran it passed the infectious disease doc and she said it was fine but changed it to augmentin because it gave some gut coverage too. But maybe it's different because we had some tummy troubles as well as sinus infection.

Thanks for all the replies! I did ask GI a few weeks ago if Zpack was ok or if she wanted something to cover the gut as well (though DD is not having any symptoms...thank goodness). She said Zpack was fine but we need to be "judicious" about antibiotics so I waited. Now that it keeps coming back and she has low grade temp (99-100) I had her start the Zpack today. Finger crossed! Next infusion is May 16th for both DD and DS so hopefully she'll be better by then and the labs they draw will come back good.

I was just going to ask the same thing. My son has had a 'cold' for past week. Took him to pediatrician yesterday and she said possible sinus infection. He also has pink eye. She prescribed 10 day treatment of amoxicillin...but I'm worried! GI said its okay just to watch for c-diff symptoms. Ugh....I don't like this. This would be first time on antibiotic since being diagnosed with Crohns 2 years ago....I'm really nervous about giving him an antibiotic because things, for the first time, seem ok otherwise 😒
