Not sure if this is the right place, so I apologize if it isn't mods!

Anyhow, I have a sinus infection and they put me on antibiotics. My parents weren't thrilled and the doctor was hesitant to put me on them but I took amoxicilin when I had my wisdom teeth removed and it wasn't so bad. However now I'm taking this antibiotic that starts with a Z (I think it's like Z pack or something, I'll have to go look) But it's really kicking my butt :(

It's a five day treatment and I'm on day two, and so far it's made me nauseous and I have abdominal pain that comes and goes, and more frequent diarrhea. Is there anything I can do to help my body tolerate this medicine better? I'm almost at the point of just getting off the stuff and taking Mucinex DM or something. Advice?

Hey there,

My thought would be if the pain is bad enough and the nausea bad enough to make you think of quitting then you need to go back to the doc and ask for a review.

Sounds like you need a different antibiotic! Many antibiotics have the symptoms you describe including the diahorrea as a side effect. However, the abdo pain that comes and goes if it is new onset could be a sign it doesnt agree with you.

Are you taking it on an empty stomach OR with a food or drink that doesnt agree with it?

I usually take it with food because when I take something on an empty stomach it doesn't usually go well. I took it with water and dinner, though my dinner wasn't the healthiest tonight, but it's not something that usually upsets my tummy. Yesterday though I took it with my Brunch, and that was cut up baby dill pickles, some chedder cheese, and some corn chips (My full proof brunch that has never messed me up) and it still produced the side effects so I don't think it's the food, just me :(

((hugs))

Have you checked the box leaflet in case there is anything you are eating that they might say you should avoid when taking it?

Sounds like you need to go back and try a different antibiotic. In many cases the alternative is better tolerated..

Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon.

Is it a 5- 6 day one a day pill? I think it is Azithromycin. I was on it, hard on the gut but it helped get rid of my Pnemonia. It shouldnt make you that ill, I would call your doctor.
