Hey guys,

My name is Amanda and I've had crohns for the last seven years. Diagnosed when I was 15 and now 22.

I've had quite a few hospital stays and had the usual steroids, infliximab, azathioprine, cyclosporin, blood transfusions etc :D

My nurse and doctor always tried to avoid surgery and I was happy with that. I didn't want it. I wanted to get my education over with first. Especially bein lg an outdoor sports student.

I'm now in my final month of uni so I got what I wanted :D

With many issues of course. Many flares but I refused to let it beat me.

I'm an outdoor instructor and I ski, canoe, kayak, climb etc.

I've been doing season work abroad through the summers and would like to continue this. I'd also like to do some ski seasons.

I honestly can't remember the last time I had a full nights sleep, I think it has been over a year. I'm sick of worrying about where the next toilet will be etc

I've been thinking of just going for the surgery. I have a job for this summer from May till August then I'm thinking that I should get it over with.

Does any one have any advice? Should I go for it?

Thanks!

Hope everyone is pooping well :)

What would you need to have taken out? I am 42 and diagnosed when I was 17. When I was 30 I was having so many blockages and so much pain I choose to have surgery, I had my ascending colon and some small bowels taken out. It was a rough recovery, but for me the best decision I could have made. They were able to remove all of my disease. I stayed symptom free for about 8 years, then I had some minor flares. Right now I am having bad flares again, but it took 12 years. I start remicade nest week, since none of the other medications ever worked for me. My doctor always said it's not if it comes back, it's when it comes back, but I got a lot of good years out of it. Now I'm hoping with the new medications out there these days I can get some relief before i get that bad again.

Hello! Thanks for the reply

They've never managed to get round my entire colon during colonoscopies so I'm unsure what would be removed
