My dad has a ranch an hour and a half west of the city, and he has some cows there. he slaughtered one of his calf's and started eating organic grazed beef. It took a couple of days before I started feeling better after eating. No more stomach cramps after eating and after bowel movements. Of course if I ate out it would send me back to square one and would deal with stomach pains.

I no longer eat out for the fear of getting stomach cramps, and being spoiled with superior tasting beef that isn't riddled with antibiotics. I also eat only cage free eggs.

Anyone else switch and have had similar results?

I have started to eat a much more organic diet. I was eating almost anything that did not upset my gut or make me feel bad. While i was still eating anything i was trying to taper off prednisone but only got down to 15mg and then was very far down the spiral. This time when i tapered with the much more organic diet i got to 5mg and still felt better than at the previous 15mg. My doctor still decided that i was not good enough though so i had to be bumped back up on pred. The organic diet definetly has had major benefits in the way i feel everyday and has reduced pain/cramping in and outside the bathroom. Recommend you stay with it if possible.

Unfortunately I have discovered that meat causes my ulcerative colitis to get worse, so I have given it up. But I do eat organic fruit and vegetables where possible.

eeek =/ I dont think I would ever be able to give up meat. even if it causes me pain.

Haven eaten meat every day, sometimes more than once a day, for over 35 years, I would have once said exactly the same thing. But I have slowly learnt that the cramping, bloating, terrible painful wind, diarrhea, stabbing pains, bleeding and being stuck on the toilet for hours on end, is really not worth the consumption of meat in the long run.

Meat eaters also have a higher level of colon cancer and given bowel disease gives you a higher rate of colon cancer anyway, I just had to let it go from my diet. It has been hard to give up, but I feel better for it.

But before I gave up, I was only eating certified organic free range meat anyway due to the superior flavour. I feel guilty about the animals every time I think about eating meat nowadays, so that helps me to avoid it most of the time.
