Hey guys, just seeing if anyone here has any experience with supplements and crohns, seeing if theres any information on how it affects the disease or not. I'm mainly looking into adding Creatine and some Amino acids into my workouts, but a bit hesitant atm. Any info would be great

My brother in law uses them both for his workouts. He had to go off the creatine for awhile because his liver enzymes went up. It can be hard on you. I wouldn't try it without the approval of your GI.

Creatine is extremely well researched, well understood, and above all, very safe. I've been taking it for years even during flares. I've even read reports of it being used in hospitals for bedridden patients to combat muscle atrophy. I do suggest drinking at least a gallon of water a day (everyone should do this anyway) because if you are dehydrated from diarrhea then taking creatine could potentially be harmful. The same can be said for almost any OTC drug, prescription, or supplement though. I suggest you save your money, get plain micronized creatine monohydrate powder. Lots of various formulations exist that claim to improve absorption, cell saturation, whatever. The research shows that they are wrong. Period.

As far as aminos go, I assume you mean BCAA's? I don't have much experience with them but I do know citruline malate often causes some gastrointestinal side effects. So be careful and actually read the label before you buy anything.

Creatine is the standard workout supplement that helps muscles retain water and will potentially give you a light strength boost. Gaspari makes a solid creatine that tastes good as well

An amino acid supplement will be fine as well, but if you are really looking to make gains in the gym, try a protein gainer rich in fiber, I recommend cytosport monster milk (talk to your doc to find out how much fiber intake is acceptable for you)

There's other supplement's as well , like NO2 which can help with wicked muscle pumps, but you'd want to try something lightweight and ease into this style of workout enhancer as you test your stomachs ability to handle it.

Lots of gainers contain carrageenan! I would examine the labels very carefully. Monster milk looks fine as long as you get the powder.

not sure what carrageenan is or what the effects are but the powdered monster milk is delicious and has an insane list of good stuff in it for you. Definitely have better regularity when I've got the cash to shell out for it. Ethan if you're serious about getting stronger in the gym I'd take a look at protein first, which will have all the amino's youre looking for, then stack that with creatine afterwards

Ive used creatine in those all in one powders (USN body mass, and SCI-mx omni) and have found both of them to help a lot. I have heard it can be hard on your liver, but if you stick to the serving suggestions and dont drink tonnes of it every day (there was a article in the papers a few years ago about a guy who damaged his liver, he was drinking 12 shakes a day!)

Its also worth looking into Glutamine as well as thats great for body building, IBD, and the immune system.
