I have had reoccurring anorectal abscesses and have a complex fistula tract and was wondering if anyone on here had success clearing things up with Tysabri. I have had 10 or so surgeries to drain abscesses over the past 2 years, taken Cipro and Flagyl, and the Anti-TNF medications did not work for me. I am about to have my 2nd infusion of Tysabri later this week. I read somewhere that there wasn't enough information to conclude whether Tysabri is effective for treating fistulas so I wanted to know individually if some people had success. Thanks.

Hi Jack,
My surgeon wanted me on it for my fistulas but my gi would not let me. Although I don't have any advice for you I wanted to wish you luck. I hope it works well for you.

Hey Jack. How are you doing? Is the Tysabri making a difference? Sorry you haven't had more replies, but here in the UK I don't think Tysabri is available and I'm struggling to think of anyone on the forum who is on it.

After two infusions I haven't had any pain relief, and I actually think the same rectal cavity is filling up and forming another abscess in the same area. Pretty discouraging. I see my surgeon tomorrow to get my malecot catheter removed. I am going to give it two more infusions because those are supposed to be the "tell all" infusions on whether you respond to the medication or not.

Hi Jack, I had my first infusion of this Feb this year. I'm scared to say it's not working as next step is bowel transplant, but I don't think it's made much of an impact. I have crohns all through the remaining bowel with narrowing here there & there too, lol. I've had infusion every 28days since Feb & I'm the first in a large hospital to receive it as its not licenced here in UK. I don't think it's a total failure, pain has reduced a little but not enough to call it a wonder drug. I'm just hoping its a slow burner - or rather my GI is. I know it's not much reassurance that the drugs worthwhile, but for now (fingers crossed) its all ive got :ghug:
