Sorry for another long post... I really need some input. I have posted a similar post before, but some things have changed so I'm revising it. I am having some serious rectal issues :( I have been in extremely healthy remission for the past 8 years with no meds. 1 or 2 formed BM per day, no pain, no sign of Crohn's.
I have also been living with a seton in my peri rectal fistula. It has been fine. I have lived a very active lifestyle with it and no pain.

But about a month ago now I started feeling pressure and pain and blood coming from fistula with BM. After 4 sitz baths a day didn't help, I went to the CR doctor, she took a look and said everything looked fine. She said no hemorrhoids etc. Then she prescribed Flagyl (which would go on to lead to C-diff!) I went back in a few days after starting the flagyl because the pain was like severe stabbing needles throughout the rectum but especially on the fistula side. She ordered a CT. Came back clear in abdomen but some thickening of rectosigmoid. She said there was no sign of infection or abscess. She said she wanted to do colonoscopy. But I was in too much pain down there to do the prep so she said wait til I finish the flagyl then we'll do it.
So, I finished the flagyl but then started getting D! Tested pos for C-Diff. So now they want to wait to do the colonoscopy until the c-diff clears up.

In the meantime the pain was starting to return and low grade fevers started. I started Vancomycin, Florastor, and another probiotic for the C-diff and now 4 days into it, the pain has just slightly subsided. It's still pretty bad though. I will try to describe it the best I can..

The fistula site looks different to me. There is a red pimple like thing in the hole next to the seton and there is some fresh blood around it. It's not dripping blood but it's there. That area feels like a deep cut. Then I feel like I have something (like a stick) stuck in the anus at times. And some pressure and needle like feeling all throughout both sides of the rectum.

I am in pain and I am so scared the pain will come back full force once I'm done with the antibiotics. I don't have a GI until next week
And even so, why wouldn't they at least try to treat me for this with something besides antibiotics? I just have to suffer until the c-diff clears up and then they do scope? Then what? What if they still don't know what it is? Tried Remicadee a long time ago but I had allergic reaction and have had reactions to many meds. I can't take any pain narcotics without getting violently ill.

Can you take prednisone during c-diff? I just don't know what to do. Anyone else have anything similar? Besides doctors appts I have been in bed or on the couch for a month. I am a single parent and thankfully I am living with my family and they are helping me. Then there's the guilt of that...

One more thing and this might come as an off the wall question.. A little over a month ago,,right before this started,, my parents were both really sick with the flu. I was taking care of them and I didn't want to get sick myself. I started taking a bunch of homemade elderberry syrup as well as vitamin c, goldenseal and echinacea, vinegar & water shots, and other supplements. Well I didn't get the flu,, but then all this started! Do you think I over boosted my immune system and threw it in to a tailspin and created this manifestation?? I know that even though I've been symptom free for the last 8 years, Crohn's can just pop back up, but it just seems like it may be connected to this. I feel so dumb. I was just trying to stay healthy.

What do you think?
I appreciate any replies, and advice. Thanks!

In short, your symptoms sound like a new abscess may have formed and possible fissures in the rectum. I've had one abscess that cleared with antibiotics because I caught it early; fissures, I've had my share. Definitely do not be shy about your issues. Keep calling your GI doc and try to have them speak with you, even if it's just a nurse. Ask your questions and express your concerns. Please don't have guilty feelings about being sick and having to rely on family- they are there to help you! Please let us know how you're doing and what doc says.

Thanks Mamalana, the surgeon said there was no sign of infection or abscess in the CT scan. Does the scan miss this type of thing sometimes? Also, she did a visual exam and said everythng looked fine. Would she be able to see a fissure? I'm so confused, in pain, and freaked out. :(

Have had rectal issues for the last 20 years, have found the last 3 GIs to have superficial knowledge on rectal / anus problems.

Have a colo rectal surgeon that speciliazes on these problems, he also did my last small bowel resection.

I strongly recommend that you see colo rectal doctors for any problems in this area.

Fernando1, I am seeing a colorectal dr. She is the same one that placed the seton 8 years ago. She is saying everything looks good to her in the physical exam, but based on CT results she wants to do colonoscopy but not until c diff clears up. But that leaves me in lots of pain and with no answers in the meantime.

Anyone know if the CT results state "thickening in rectosigmoid" means that the Crohn's has spread there? Was previously ileum .
