GI wants me on remicade but I am adamantly against it. He suggested Apriso but isn't that just mesalamine? I thought it's only good for Ulcerative Colitis.

My issues are mainly in the small intestine so I am confused why he would prescribe this medication. He said new studies show efficacy in Crohn's but couldn't find any.

Why are you against the Remicade?

Yes, apriso is just mesalamine. It can help people with Crohn's a bit but I certainly wouldn't want to just be on it as the data isn't very compelling.

I'd be interested in any studies that say otherwise if he is indeed able to find them.

I just hate the idea of such heavy duty meds that hurt the body in other ways. I'm hoping paleo + LDN may work.

I was just recently diagnosed but had to get off some antibiotics before I could try the medicine. I to was put on apriso... I don't think that this medicine is working for me.. I wanted to give it a month before I decided to complain about it... The nurse said it would take three weeks to get into my system... It has been over three weeks, but since my body is just in plain crazy mode, I wanted to go ahead and keep using it until i go back on 10/17... Just to give it a little bit of time... I will say, I don't think this medicine is what works for me, but yes apriso can be used for Crohn's.. My doctor is taking baby steps, so it might be something he is trying as best case scenerio.. I am not really sure about his thoughts right now....

If it was me and I was going to do just paleo and LDN I might add a mesalamine formulation to the mix. Which, would depend on where my disease was located. They're pretty benign for most people though side effects should of course be watched for. I just wouldn't do only a mesalamine. THAT is asking for trouble in my opinion.

Is there any info on the effectiveness of Apriso for Crohn's? I think there was a recent study but can't find it.

My 15 yr old daughter takes apriso and Ldn along with vit d, mult vit, probiotic. She was doing great for a good 6 months then had a flare but I think flare was due to her dad passing unexpectedly. She's now added prednisone but is still on the others as well. I'm hoping the Ldn will kick back in while weaning off predn. I think it's great your doctor isnt being to aggressive with the mess but I don't think apriso alone will be enough. Keep us updated
