I had asthma and allergies pretty bad when I was younger. A while after I started treatment for Crohn's it started to go away. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced something like that. I wonder if the treatment helped, or if I just grew out of it.

I needed to take allergy medicine and puffers every day. I haven't used them daily in years now. I have at most 1 asthma attack a year, and my allergies only bother me if I rub my nose in a cat or something silly like that.

When I was younger I used to have really bad allergies, and was asthmatic for a period of time during my high school years. In the last 5 or so years, my allergies have been reduced to about two months a year (November and December :( )

My asthma symptoms almost completely vanished within a month after I quit smoking cigarettes earlier this year. With an exception of twice in the last couple months, I haven't needed my inhaler... but I think it's cause my allergies kick my ass this time of the year.

who knows what it all means :ybatty:

it's a huge conspiracy ensuring that people will always be paying for some kind of medication. i guess.

Allergies and Asthma can just go away with age. My allergies have improved with age but that is the only age related improvement I can think of.

The meds could also have helped. hard to know for sure what made the difference. Could be either or both.

I am quite sure smoking would aggravate Asthma quite a lot. Good for you Jo, for giving up the smokes. I will have to quit again soon. They are far too expensive in more than one way.

i use to suffer alot from athsma after running around for short periods of time but now that i think about it after being diagnosed with crohns this has greatly reduced.

i didnt really think anything of it but now that other people have had the same sort of thing there may be something in it. interesting!

could be completely coincidental and as D bergy said athsma and allergies can just disappear with age...whose to know?

There was actually a study released early this year showing that people with IBD can actually show symptoms relating to their respiratory tract. I found this out because in between remicade infusions I would start getting a constant cough and be worried I was sick, but blood tests always showed I was in top health. I don't remember the study, but a quick google search might give some information on it.
