Azathioprine ~ 25mg

Hi,

Anyone started on low dose of Azathioprine 25mg a day for 2 weeks before doc up the dosage? Did you see any improvement to your condition when taking 25mg of Azathioprine?

Welcome to the forum.
Azathioprine may be started at a lower dose as mine was.
Prior to starting there has to be a lot of bloodwork analysis and this has to be done on a weekly basis for 8-12 weeks in case of unwanted reactions., and as decided by the GI.
Hopefully you have been started off in this way.
The dosage is gradually increased to the amount decided by the gastroenterologist and must be monitored with the blood work.
It takes a little while for the azathioprine to show results and I think this is usually around three months
Some specialists treat with steroids during this time frame.

Hi yellow fellow,
I started at 12.5mg for 3-4 days then 25mg for a couple of weeks.
It is supposed to minimise getting side effects.
Hope it works well for you.

The only very minor side effect I has was a slight headache for a couple of weeks. Though it did affect my white cell count above 50mg though so regular blood tests are important particularly after dose increases.
