All,
Well I saw the doctor on Monday for loosing 50 lbs, running a temp of 103.8 temp and an additional abcess that was really starting to hurt.
So he sent me to the hospital for a complete rebuilding process and it is more that likely that I will be in here through next week.

Got the abscess cut and drained. Swelling redness and overall discharge amout have improved, but it still smarts when I move positions.

I have been on Humira for 14 days so tomorrow is the second part of the starter pac. I really hope this second wave calms my bowels down so I can start to absorb nutrients and eat a little more regularly.

Currently they have me on some TPN IV protien drip which hopefully stops the weight loss and promotes some weight gain.

I have until next week to start gaining weight otherwise Doc (with whom I am very respectful and grateful of and his team) is gonna send me to University of Nebraska for more experienced Crohns Hospital care.

Just a little post, to let you guys know whats happening.
I am feeling better today and if anyone else is in the hospital, hang in there.

Kansas or if you want the name is Sam

Wow, Sam. Sounds like you've been in pretty rough shape :(
I hope you feel better, and that the Humira works well for you!
Please keep us updated.

I second this. :(

University of Nebraska? I am from Nebraska, but in Michigan right now, I didn't realize they had a specialized clinic for Crohn's hospital care at UN probably up in Omaha, hmm, going to check it out.

Sorry random thoughts, but take care and definitely keep us posted!

Sounds like you are pretty uncomfortable right now, Sam! Hope you're feeling slightly better soon. I'm glad you are getting the care you need however, sounds like you have a great doctor behind you.

Everything seems to be going smooth steady and forward though not with out all the painful steps. I am positive and optimistic knowing that God is Good and Loving. Thanks all and I will keep in touch.

Another Update

Well I have two fistulas that according to the docs are the size of a baseball once you get in there. So they are packed and painful and must be changed out every day. The docs discussed the importance of no more fistulas/infections otherwise they are talking colectomy.

If there are no more infections or new fistulas, then they can work on my lower intestines where my Crohns is with Remicade. Only when the infections are completely treated though. We tried to treat them at the same time with Humira and it put me right back in the hospital and off Humira for future treatment. So now it is complete bowel rest (no food for 7 days, just TPN in an IV) and focus on the fistulas and infections.

I have done some reading on the Colectomy subject since my fistulas are so bad, and I most likely can't take any more. Does anyone have an opinion like "since the surgery life has been great or the bag sucks or I hate going to the beach or it spills when I try and empty it".

Keep in mind I was diagnosed with Crohns on June 14 so this is all pretty new, but I am trying to keep a positive outlook. The docs here at Nebraska are pretty thorough. They pretty much started from scratch to fix me up when I got transferred. So far, since I have been here, I have had a CT Scan, MRI, MRE, Colonoscopy, and 3 fistula deep clean/packing operations.

It is nice to just get some of this stuff out especially sitting in the hospital all day. Thanks for the comments, hope you are eating a cheesebuger:)

I will be praying for you and your doctors. Focus on healing. Don't torture yourself by watching the food network like I did when I was hospitalized.

Hi Sam, hope you don't feel too bad and start getting better soon.
Lots of stuff on this forum about stomas if you do a search. Some of it doesn't pull any punches, but I have to say overall that I feel more positive about the prospect of such an operation, if it became necessary in the future.
Good luck

Not sure really how a colectomy is different than an ostomy, maybe just placed in different areas? Anyways - Kello and Dan and Dingbat have bags, if you want to search their posts. (Other people too, I just can't remember who.)
Dan had a few problems at first, but is now LOVING his bag I think. Kello is still having some problems, but will get sorted out soon hopefully.

Have you used the search option on here? It's really good.

LOL@cheeseburger comment =)

Hope you start feeling better soon and they get your fistulas under control.
