Just wondering if anyone here has been treated with balloon dilation? I see lots of posts of about resections and strictureplasty, but I'm wondering how many have gotten balloon dilation first to see it helped without surgery?

Hey , there is only one person of hand that was Creepy Lurker but he is not very ACTIVE on here AS MUCH. I Would hope that it work sorry cant help the direction :hang: so one could help CREEPY LURKER WHERE YOU ARE Y0U.!!!

Bank in January I had a colonoscopy b/c of a lit of pain right under my rib cage. My dr said that my intestin had collapsed and bent so there were 3 options...surgery/stint or balloon dilation. Since I had already gone through 8 surgeries for this wonderful disease we opted for the balloon. That was back in January and here we are almost Sept and I am feeling fine. He did say that my intestine will probably do that again but we are not sure when and then there will be a possibility for surgery then but will probably try the balloon again.

My reccomendation is go ahead with the balloon. If it works then you have saved yourself from surgery. If it does not work you will probably feel better until another option is presented.

Good luck.

Hi, I have had three balloon dilatations this year in February, March and June. The only one that was successful in that they were able to "pass the scope" through was the one in March. Unfortunately in my case this stricture has grown longer and it cannot be dilated and so I am having a resection in two weeks.

The procedure is really just like a colonoscopy, I was sedated but could watch the process and they give you pictures of it afterwards!

Before I had this done I read that, providing the stricture is not too long, balloon dilatation has a high success rate and can delay surgery or even avoid it. I hope that this is the case for you. Good luck and best wishes.

I had it done 4 times, the first 2 worked wonders for several months. The 3rd lasted maybe a week and the 4th, well, it closed up so fast that I couldn't even pass the air out of my intestines from the scope in the recovery room...I had to let the air work it's way up through my mouth believe it or not. I never want to feel that again..But with that said, I would say go for it, it'll probably buy you some time for the first couple of tries...
