Balloon endoscopy

These would be done for inflammation that is causing narrowing. If you are completely scarred I don't believe this is an option.

Balloon endoscopy is used to examine the small intestine. It is different from balloon dilation, which is used to expand strictures, for instance, strictures caused by scarring. It sounds like you are talking about balloon dilation, not balloon endoscopy.

I personally have not had either procedure.

Yes I am referring to double balloon dilation. My narrowing is at the terminal ileum of small intestine. They are also doing a biopsy as I have not had one before due to location of my problem area. Outside chance I may not have Crohns. Scarring may be due to long term use of nap rosy for lupus.

Hi MaryJ, I've had Balloon Dilation many times, it doesn't hurt & can be a great relief. You'll find people that its really worked for, for me though it usually just postpones the inevitable surgery. But thats just me.
Good luck with the procedure & let us know how you get on.

Grant

Thanks Grant. I am having CAT enterography this week and hope to get breath test and humira test done over next 2 weeks. They want these done before balloon. In the meantime I am on 9mg entocort and humira every 2 weeks. Have you ever heard of needing to be off probiotics for a month before a breath test.

I had this done. I have had obstructions and have scar tissue, so when I was trying to get pregnant I had it done to make sure there wasn't too much scar tissue and safe to get pregnant. I found this test very painful.

Thanks for your reply. Enjoy your little one. I find trying to avoid looking too far ahead and managing what is in front of me works better with this disease.

Although the test was painful, it was a few seconds. And with crohns I had been through worse. So, it was worth it.
