bananas!?!

I am wondering if anyone has had problems when it comes to eating bananas?
i am still under going a 'flare' but i read that bananas are recommended.....i ate one and was teribly ill...major case of diarrohea/stomach cramps etc. Wondered if this has happened to others?? Does anyone know if foods with bananas in such as muffins or cakes would be better...ive been pretty scared to re-attempt my banana munching for now! Perhaps there is something in bananas besides the fibre content that is bad for UC or Crohns sufferers?? Any thoughts welcome :)

I have never noticed a problem, but I have been feeling yucky lately, and didn't feel like eating dinner last night. I had a banana hoping to add some brilliant comment here today, but I don't really have anything to say. Not better, not worse, just the same.

I have terrible problems with bannanas. I only ate them coz i too heard they were good for me, but last time i had one, i had the WORST wind ever known for me!! It was terrible. NEVER had one since! lol! Im scared of them now!

I have never had a problem with bananas, but this topic has come up before and it seems that there are people with Crohn's that can't handle bananas.

bananas are good for me when i have a diarrhea as they are constipating. everyone is different though, if they are a problem for you stay away from them.

According to my vegan fruit eating guidelines it is bad to combine fruits with other foods. Like fruits plus starchy grains is a bad combo, requires too much digestion and can cause gas.

So I'd suggest just trying them in a smoothie ALONE with maybe mangoes or strawberries, make it so it isnt overly sweet too (add water/ice). See how that sits with ya, makes an easy breakfast. Then just have water afterwards and wait like an hour or two to eat something different...you know, give the fruit a chance to go through. Bananas are part of my healing regime btw....economical and loaded with nutrients.

frozen the vegan book is right, fruits digest very fast so its best to have them before anything else eotherwise it could cause complications.

I can only eat bananas when they are just past the green stage. They make me wheezy on the asthma front within minutes of eating or inhaling ripe banana.

I dont even have to eat it I just need to sit beside someone eating a ripe banana and that will start me off!

I have been tested for banana allergy and latex allergy because they are linked and I am a nurse wearing gloves daily at work but came up negative.

AlleryUK have told me they think its as the banana ripens the histimine intensifies and that is what triggers me hence only able to eat them as long as there are no brown spots at all!

This makes total sense to me because I had a broncihal histamine challenge a couple of years back in asthma clinic and had a massive asthma attack.

So perhaps it isnt the fibre maybe its histamine or something like it that is triggering you?

Just pondering out loud here....
