So we did it! No real problems the tech said. I'm not really concerned with upper though, lower is where she was storing all her stool and where her impaction was. That test is Monday and is in enema form yippee not. Still no results from bloodwork on Friday 10/30/15 either. She pooped once after the test and it was caked to her bum. I'll call doc tomorrow if there is no more movement from her bowels. Our last impaction has me on edge for future issues

Glad it's done
Push lots of liquids to help keep
Things moving
I think our Gi had DS take extra miralax to make sure things keep moving
FYI the stool turns bright white from the barium

Thanks mlp it hasn't turned white yet as in the first one afterwards, that's why my concern is a little high and she has been loose as of late so the caked part I knew was due to the barium but I did give her 8.5 grams of miralax tonight asking with 9oz of water plus her morning dose so I'm hoping we have progress tomorrow. They never gave me a real cutoff time as far as not passing it which is weird with her constipation so I've use this group's info as reference which I believe was 48 hours but I'm nut going to let it get that far out 24 hours max

My son had C instead of D at the time before and at dx. He did tests with barium and his did not always turn white. The first time we did give extra miralax but afterward I left it up to him (I know not an option with yours being so little) hugs!

Thanks clash did your GI give you guideline as to when he should be passing stool? My daughter seems to hoard hers in the rectum so I'm not sure if the poop directly after was post barium. I called the office twice today and left two voicemails and of course no reply. A little off topic is we are located in Florida and recently moved from Vermont. Healthcare and doctors down here SUCK!! I miss my Vermont healthcare and doctors! If I won the lottery I'd travel back up to have my GI look her over lol

He didn't really give a time frame but did suggest upping the miralax.

There are a few at my son's pediatric GI group that drive up from Florida. One I remember had something like a 6 hour drive and they did it for remicade so every 7 or 8 weeks. Of course visits and labs were included in the remicade visits. I was blown away. I don't think they saw C's GI but another in the group.

My daughter got VERY constipated after her SBFT - she was pooping barium for over a week. It was when her Crohn's was active and at the time, she was constipated anyway and the barium just made things a hundred times worse. She had horrible stomach pain and just felt terrible. It took nearly a whole bottle of miralax and dulcolax (similar to the colonoscopy prep) that eventually got the barium out.

The next time, since we knew what to expect, we gave her extra miralax (like 3 capfuls!) before and after the SBFT. It worked like a charm!

Good luck!

Thanks Maya I'm going to give her a whole capful tomorrow morning after giving her half a capful tonight (mind you she's been on a steady see saw with dosing for over 2 weeks). She's only 2 so all I get from her as far as symptoms is belly sick or head hurt but it's a little strange to me that the GI wanted this test done after spending the night in the hospital with a ng tube and 2 rounds of golytely due to being so impacted and full of stool. And then not to council me on afterward things to watch for so we don't have her vomiting poop is careless. I found most my info on here and that damn Google lol

There are several major children's hospitals in this area - Nemours (Orlando), Arnold Palmer (Orlando), All Children's (St. Pete), and St. Joe's (Tampa). Sometimes you have to shop around a little until you find the perfect fit for you and your child. We do have excellent doctors here in Central Florida, and like anywhere else in the country we have some crummy ones too.

We've used all children's and was told to stop eating cheese, now were with st Joe's but I think I'm going to shop around the Orlando area both are about an hour commute either way

Being in Lakeland is an advantage because you have easy access to Tampa and Orlando via I4. You could also check out the USF group of physicians. Our Immunologist has a USF clinic within All Children's Hospital. I'm not sure where the other physicians hold clinic, maybe there as well. All Children's is huge. We've also gone to CHOA Egleston in Atlanta to their IBD clinic. That may be another option for you to consider.

We were unhappy with Dr arasu because we were told that the periactin that he put her on was what caused the impaction/obstruction by Lakeland regional. All children's just said stop eating cheese even though we have family history of crohns and uc (I have uc) based on her symptoms her pediatrician and Er doc referred us to Dr arasu so once our pediatrician found out about our last stint in the hospital she direct admitted us to st Joe's. I really disliked them they were very slow and confined us to our room on contact precautions due to C diff which I understand but she tested negative for it. I couldn't leave the room to eat..... people gotta eat, anyway I'm rambling again I feel like we've exhausted the Tampa side so maybe a Orlando check in
