Hi:
I live in Puerto Rico. I just found out yesterday that my 8 year old son has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. As some of your might imagine we are devastated by the news. I will love to get a second opinion, so I am asking if thorugh this forum I can get the information of the best clinic that treat this disease. I would like to visit the best clinic in the USA to get a second opinion. Thanks!

I have heard REALLy good things about Cleveland Clinic (in Ohio). I know Mayo clinic is supposed to be really good too, but I am not sure how much they deal with Crohn's patients. You might also want to check out the Children's Miracle Network. I don't know very much about it, but here is a link to the website where you might find a good pediatrician GI http://childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/About/Children

Hi sorry to hear about your dear son.
We got a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota USA.
We loved it because the city caters to the hospital. From the hotel, cab company, grocery stores.....every place is great at helping.
Also I've heard that it's great for international patients.
I have to say when we were there we saw as many foreigners as we say Americans. It was really nice to meet people from all over the world.
We all understood that we were there to help our children.
The GI we meant with was very well versed in the world of Ibd.

I'll tag in mlp, she has had a few second opinions for her son.

The University of Chicago's IBD clinic is also a good one with a few of the top researchers in IBD working there.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester is amazing! There are hotels in the area that have vans take you to and from the clinic.

Some of the top pediatric IBD clinics have been listed on here before. I'm going to tag my little penguin as she is familiar with them. I know one is CHOP I'm drawing a blank on the others. Oh wait, I think Cincinnati Childrens is another. Hopefully, my little penguin will be along shortly.

I second Rochester MN Mayo Clinic. I had my diagnosis and surgery there and am was very pleased with the results.

I have had Crohns disease for 40 years, and been to many GI specialists. I am currently being treated by a GI specialist at the University of Miami Hospital. They have a dedicated Crohns & Colitis center and their doctors are at the forefront of Crohns research. I can highly recommend you look into contacting them, the head of the GI department is a Dr. Maria Abreu. Do a Google search of her name for more info.

I went to the Mayo Clinic a few months ago. It was very nice, clean, and everything was fast. However, I didn't get any new tests, just the same old things. Also, I wasn't completely happy with the results. While it was helpful, it wasn't amazing and I still have a lot of unanswered questions. That being said, I am a very complicated case so things might be better for easier cases. I wish that I had been referred to the Cleveland Clinic, as I've heard great things about how they diagnose and treat IBD.

Cleveland clinic was referred to me but I know nothing about them. What have you heard about how they diagnose and treat?
I'm going to make an appointment to go but would like to know more.

I never went to Mayo, as my symptoms don't warrant travel to another state, but I know people who went there and I've heard it's the best. Not sure if they work with kids, though. I agree with My Little Penguin - the Children's Hospitals are probably the best bet for your son.

I am being referred to the digestive Center at the University of Maryland. They have a Crohns and Colitis clinic and Specialists. I think they have a pretty good reputation.
