Hi Everyone,

I need some advice please. I've had my ileostomy bag since January 6th of this year. Roughly 2 1/2 months. Mostly I wear just sweat pants and a shirt that's long enough to cover my bag since I wear it over my pants. The other day I positioned my bag under my sweat pants. What happened was the elastic seemed to be too binding for my bag (even though it was comfortable for me). So my poop didn't go below my waistline. I was constantly checking it to see if I needed to pull my pants away from my body. I'm sure there are going to be times that I won't have the luxury of being able to adjust my pants or empty my bag as often so I'm not sure what to do. My stoma is positioned around 1 1/2 inches above my belly button. It falls right along my waistline. I would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions. I'm afraid that poop building up in that portion of the bag will cause it to leak and then I'm in trouble. Thanks for your help!!! Sharon:smile:

Sorry Sharon, but I haven't had a bag (yet), so I cannot offer any help. I hope you get some answers soon.

Good health and best of luck.

Hello, I've had my bag for about the same amount of time and am still getting used to it! I guess it's just down to trial and error in the end but I have similar problems with mine. I generally avoid elasticated waistbands because normal trousers I can wear a bit looser and empty it regularly. I still get paranoid though and end up fiddling with it throughout the day! One thing I have found useful is an elasticated waistband, the company in the uk is called comfizz. They do briefs and swimwear too I think. It's just a really wide waistband that feels like a pair of tights that covers the entire bag and keeps it flat so that it doesn't stop the output coming out but gently keeps it going down in the right direction. Hope that makes sense. Also it's skin coloured so if I do need to adjust things it's not so noticeable!

hi Sharon,

How are ya doing. . . . . . The ileostomy bag that i have is actually situated 3-4 inches BELOW my belly button and i must say i do feel bad for you and where yours is.

I suppose every surgeon does things either how they HAVE to or . . . . . (PARDON THE EXPRESSION) they don't give a ****.

When i was getting mine done i had a surgical liason nurse who drew the agreed location onto my stomach so that i can wear different types of trousers and jeans etc before i went to theatre and the surgeon did as good as he could to get close to it.

I guess i am lucky !! . . . . . never thought i would ever say that about having an ileostomy !!!

I wish you every success with your whole life and any of the things that you must deal with along the way . . i.e. bag issues etc.

Keep the chin up and whenever i am on here i would be glad if i could help you.

Big hugs from Ireland

Bruscar
