Biomarkers that indicate active inflammation

-crp
-ESR
-faecal calprotectin
-generally elevated white blood cells
And a fact that totally surprised me !
My g.I. told me that high ferritin levels mean active inflammation !!!.
What else would you consider ?

I think for me I would include:

Diarrhea, bloody stool/diarrhea, constipation, accidents, frequent bathroom runs & stomach pain.

Yes, ferritin can act an acute phase reactant. So it's important to do ALL the iron studies (iron saturation, transferrin, total iron) before concluding a patient is not iron deficient because Ferritin can be artificially raised by inflammation.

My daughter's Ferritin was high for several years before it finally came down!!

For some patients, WBC can also go up with inflammation, besides ESR and CRP and Fecal Calprotectin.
