Hi,

I'm anxious about some fly bites I have. I was at the stables last week and was bitten on my arm, and the small black fly made a blood spot, which blistered and my arm swelled. I still have a healing sore on my arm, but the swelling has gone.

Well on Wednesday I was at stables again and was bitten 3 times on the ankle, again the flies drew blood and my ankle has swelled so bad, I cant put any weight on my leg, and I have a red swollen patch at the top of my thigh which is swollen and tender. My toes are like sausages and its really painful. I am taking antihistamine and paracetomal, but I feel really unwell, almost like flu. I have a weird numbness around my face, and in my finger tips on one side.

My stomach is bad as well, and have diarrhoea.

Anyone have any advice? Feeling really anxious.

Im on Infliximab, and have never had a reaction before

That really is a weird reaction! I would be calling the doctor to at least get some advice. I haven't noticed any additional reactions/swelling from bites myself - I wonder if the flies were actually something else? Please let us know how you make out...the black flies are out here too - along with mosquitos!.....and bees.....

It was definitely from small black flies. I couldn't believe that such a small fly could do this. I felt a sting sensation and there they were sucking blood, definitely not mosquitos. I was left with a pin prick of blood which settled to a blood blister spot.

I also have yellow discharge oozing from bites which crystalizes, very nasty and very sore.

Ive been bitten by mosquitos before, stung by bees and wasps, but never had a reaction like this.

Quite scared, maybe I need to go to A&E?

Do you have something you can put on the bites? I have had some do that - kind of ooze serum which crystalizes....I would probably go get seen, if not by your doctor than to A&E..especially if hte numbness has gotten worse, or even no better....

Yes, I would absolutely get that checked out sooner rather than later. Especially considering the medications you are taking there is obviously some bad reaction going on caused by something. Probably your suppressed immune system.

if it was black fly, horse fly or stable fly you are having a allergic reaction to the bite and should probably get seen soon. The bites are typically nasty and are a nuisance to humans but what you are experience is a reaction much like a individual allergic to bees or wasps.
