Bleeding - cause or symptom of flareup?

I'm still a bit confused with how an IBD really works when a flareup is occuring, so I guess I'll ask yet another question about them..

Is bleeding a cause of the flareup, or just a symptom? Today I had to go 14 times (yes, I counted) and starting around 3 pm was the bleeding associated with it. (defninitely not female related).

So ya, guess my question is: is bleeding just because of emptying my guts too often, or is it my stomach being imflamed that's actually causing the bleeding?

It is probably the inflammation in your intestines. Blood doesn't come from nowhere. There has to be some sort of irritation or inflammation to bleed. Think of it like your skin. When there is no irritation there is no blood. But if it gets irritated you keep scratching it then it will bleed. It's essentially the same thing that happens in your intestines.

If it's fresh blood you probably have a tear (due to inflammation) or ulcer/fistula not far inside. Hemmeroids are also possible but you'd be complaining about the pain too. The bleeding is a result of crohn's symptoms. It can't cause a flare up.

K thanks guys..

The pains are in my typical low right side, by the way.

I wonder if I should even bother going to a doctor?

Problem is, Jeff, the doctor who is always on call at the hospital (or almost always) is the one who I refuse to see since he thinks I'm a liar. :/

Well what I was always told is that it's the colour of the blood that tells you what's going on. I have very fresh red blood most days and I would consider myself to be in a 'good patch' at the moment. Have asked my doctor on many occasions and he's always said that fresh blood is nothing (!) to worry about. If it's darker blood then that's something to definitely mention.

I'd probably go anyway if you don't usually have blood but it is certainly a very common sympton of CD.
