I've been tapering down from 40mg of prednisone, and when I made it down to 10mg I started feeling sick again. I went back up to 12.5mg and when that didn't work I went up to 15mg. I've been on that almost a week, and I've noticed small amounts of blood in my stool a few times. I've only ever had blood in the stool when I have been having a bad flare. Is it possible that I am flaring up again even on the prednisone? Should a person have blood in the stool when they're on pred?

It is possible to have bleeding even while on Prednisone. Could be because you weren't on a high dose for long enough to get the inflammation under control. Right now you're on a tapering dose yet not aggressive enough for severe inflammation. What other meds are you taking? If you haven't told your GI yet about the bleeding I'd let them know right away.

I continued bleeding throughout being on Pred, it never stopped completely. So it is definitely possible. xx

You can definitely still bleed on pred, for me I had formed stools a little bit of blood on them pretty much for like 4 months of pred, even on as high up to 50/40 mg pred, the blood only went away when I started pentasa and imuran, and now am tapering off the pred (currently on 7.5) and I'm in biochemical and clinical remission currently, hoping to be in histological remission but won't be getting any scopes down for a while

the dosage you are on is not a successful therapeutic dosage of prednisone for flares.

It could be that you are still flaring and need to be on higher dosages of pred for longer to get things under control.

Regardless of the reason behind it, make sure you tell your doctor about this right away so you can determine what your next plan of action will be.

Sorry to hear about the bleeding. I hope it all clears up for you soon
