Over the past several days I have noticed quite a bit of blood following my bowel movements. The blood is not in the stool rather it comes, after it? I have had crohns for over 4 years and this is the first time I have noticed this before. Any ideas?

Is it very painful?

If it is very painful when you are not going to the bathroom and while you are going to the bathroom then it's a possibility of hemmies or a fissure. In either case take a few soaks a day to keep the area clean and infection free and go see the GI. They will likely tell you to do exactly as I said but they could give you a cream that is not prep H that works well.

Good luck

I had that off and on....not so much lately. Most of the time I noticed it isn't IN my stools, but rather on the toilet paper while I am wiping.

I am going in for an MRI to check for fistulas etc next tuesday.

that's usually how i get the bleeding... i only see blood in my stool every so often, but usually the bleeding chases my stools and/or on the toilet paper.

i'm told by the doctor that sometimes the blood is actually in your stools even when it's not visible.

I get this frequently. You can get a cream from the doctor, they also recommended the zinc used for babies w/ diaper rash.
