Hi all. I am due a colonoscopy[/wiki2] and gastroscope tomorow and have an hour ago finished my first batch of prep. (moviprep) urghhhh! I have been to the toilet once already and passed a lot of blood and mucous. Is this normal? Please help

I've had the moviprep and can safely say that is the most disgusting thing I've ever drunk! As for the mucus, i was told the mucus was generally normal and helps hold poo together. You may be passing mucus because your flushing your system clean. As for the blood, keep monitoring it. If it persists phone your GI. It may be from the strain of pooing alot. Nothing to worry about too much. Be sure to inform your doctor in the morning if it does subside.

Oooo seriously it made me gag I struggled to get it down without vomiting! Iv not actually had my bowels open I'm just going to the toilet with abdo pain feeling like I need too and passing a lot of blood? Hopefully by tomorow I will find out what the issue is. My stomach feels very raw since taking the prep which is what worried me. I have 2 stomach ulcers so hope it's not affecting them! I am dreading this second prep in the morning :/

Were you also passing any amount of blood for a time before you started the prep? What is your definition of passing a lot of blood (how much is "a lot") ?

Definitely let your GI know. They typically want a clean/clear bowel to do a scope so that they get clear images of your colon but if your bleeding is intense then he may have to come up with something to try and control it prior to the scope. When you do your testing tomorrow he can hopefully go in and find the source.

Oh, and while i did not do moviprep, the mucous passing is common because when your intestines are inflamed, they produce extra amounts of mucous.

Good luck on your test!
