Blood in stools coming of prednisolone

Hiy guys just wanted to know if anyone has had problems tapering of prednisolone? I started on 20mg a day down to 10mg now on 5mg started to get blood in my stools again now and that was when I was just finishing the 10mg. Does this mean I'm still in a flare? I don't get blood every time tho. Now starting to feel the same way I did b4 taking it. I was fine for a couple of weeks just don't get it. Do you think I should go back to the doctors I don't wanna waste there time. It's not unbearable it's just anoying. I thought I was in the clear

You're still in flare, yes. That means you need to be on prednisone longer. Call your GI and let them know.

Prednisone at high doses may just mask the symptoms. When you taper and find that your symptoms come back, that means you need to stay at that higher level for longer. Or, that in addition, you need to be put on stronger medication. Are you on anything for IBD?

Hi there thanks for your reply I'm currently on pentasa 500mg 8 tablets a day, omeprazole, Buscopan 10mg and on 5mg prednisone. I was okay when I was 20mg. Only got the problem when I went down to 10 when I was finishing the 10mg. Thank you

It may mean you need stronger medication, then. If you're contacting your doctor anyway, I would recommend asking about going on an immunosuppressant (Imuran, 6mp, or Methotrexate) in addition to the Pentasa. What it would do is slow the immune system so that future inflammation should be prevented from starting in the first place. People usually start immunosuppressants while on prednisone, since that helps them get into remission and the immunosuppressant helps them stay there. Pentasa is just an anti-inflammatory to treat pre-existing inflammation.

I started having problems again the day I tapered down to 20mg pred, major bleeding and ab pain. My GP put my dose back up and in a week it had mostly calmed down again
