I got my blood test results back today all within range accept one thing was elevated. My ALT enzyme in my liver.

Normal Range 0 - 65

Mine was 69

Is this normal with crohns many normal folks not with crohns get like in the 30s.....???

I have taken prednisone about three times since 2006. I was last on it for attack about a month ago.

Anyone else get these results? They say Tylenol type medicine or anti inflammatory medicine kind of damages the liver. This is what asacol does..

Thanks in advance.

Not to mention the liver plays a main role in digestion etc

what are normal levels of AST and ALT?

The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is from 5 to 40 units per liter of serum (the liquid part of the blood).
The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum.

Liver enzymes can be affected if something alcoholic has been taken, and some dietary factors like herbals,as well as medication could cause an increased value.
Lab values are not 100% and an error factor of 5 or 10% should be factored in when interpreting results.
.Perhaps you should discuss these test results with your doctor who will hopefully follow up with repeat tests if indicated.
Currently I would not be too concerned with the present result if it was me but I would want it to be followed by the docs..
Feel better soon

Yeah I don't drink alcohol. I may get a repeat test next few weeks.

Are you taking 6mp? (Mercaptopurine) I was on that for several years and occasionally my liver enzymes would be slightly elevated. I'm no doctor, but I do work in a lab and I wouldn't get too worried. I agree that you should have the test repeated, just to make sure that your levels don't continue to climb. Mine were around 100 and my doctor cut my dose of 6mp down and they never were elevated again.

I have looked into this as well and the only thing usually is alcohol and certain types of meds that make your ALT levels high. I know in women birth control can make it high. Ask your doc to see if that certain medication that you are taking can make them higher.

Take care
