Hello all,

I just got back my blood test results and I have high levels of SGPT and SGOT and HCT and absolute eosinphilia. Low MCV and MCH. Other results are all bordering on being abnormal for example my Lymphocytes count is 40 and its the max in the normal range. I understand it means I have an inflammation what I'm worried about are SGOT and SGPT, does high levels mean I can't take immunity suppressants or they would be safe to start? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

So you're anemic and have elevated liver enzymes meaning your liver isn't as healthy as they would like it to be. Do you know which specific immunosuppressant they're looking to put you on? I can do some research if you know that.

Thank you David, that's very kind of you. I'm looking to try Remicade as the good I heard about it outcomes the side effects, but if my financing plans didn't work out (seeking new insurance) I will have to take Imuran which I'm not so sure about as I see more people complain about it more than they praise it. I'm worried because my liver been inflamed for two years now with some gallbladder issues (funny fact that I don't even drink) my GI thinks the benefits out weight the risks for me as my other option would be surgery.

I'm afraid if he is wrong, if my liver won't take it. I would appreciate knowing that is its still somehow safe, I've been in a flare up for a very long time and I don't think I will be handle anything more. Thank you again David, I really appreciate it.

I've found many references stating that both Remicade and Imuran can cause liver problems but I haven't found anything about whether or not they can be utilized in the presence of elevated liver enzymes. Specific ailments such as hepatitis are contraindicated though. I apologize that I'm unable to provide any good facts. I'm guessing your doctor will weigh what he thinks is the cause of your elevated liver enzymes with how much they're elevated and make a determination as to whether Remicade or Imuran are good fits for you.

I will say both appear to be excellent medications. Yes, there are potential side effects but both are wonderful for the treatment of Crohn's Disease if that's the route you want to take.

Thank you for your effort, I guess I'll have to take the risk. I should go to the doctor tomorrow to discuss it more :)
