Just wanted to know how often your kids get blood tests?

Does it depend on where they're in remission or not.

I think it is dependent on which treatment you are on which Polly13 alludes to above. C has labwork done every month for now but it will eventually be every 6 weeks, right now every month due to MTX but pre MTX every 6 weeks due to Remicade.

When DS was on 6-mp every two weeks.
Mtx every two weeks .
Remicade every infusion - so this time will be six weeks out.
If we have any signs of hmmmm I wonder what is going on...
Then doc orders blood test.

Depends on meds, doctor and remission I think. Jack was every month the first 6 months then every other month the next 6 months, then every 3 months for the next 2 years on Imuran. It will actually be a year this time on the LDN unless he starts to have issues. GI is basing it on his last labs which were in the normal range and overall health.
My husband has them every 3 months and he is on Imuran

The GI and I have agreed on three monthly. Sarah takes aza, gi would do it less often. Sarah also has anemia which I want monitored.

This agreement is for my piece of mind. I had the last blood test done early due to slight stomach ache, long with the faecal calprotectin.

It varies a lot according to his health issues and medications but ongoing monitoring is once every 3 months along with a clinic visit.

When starting or changing doses of medications that affect immune system function or may affect liver function our ped GI usually orders labs every 2 weeks x 2 then every 4 weeks x 3 then every 3 months if everything is OK.

If labs are mildly to moderately abnormal then usually they are repeated within 1 to 2 weeks depending on the issue. our doc may or may not have us d/c or stop the med during that time. Severely abnormal labs we have not had to deal with so I can't really speak to that.

If we are doing iron supplementation due to low ferritin levels then it is usually good enough to just do the regular labwork schedule.

Health issues that merit labwork outside the 3 month schedule would be new GI symptoms like bloody stools, severe fatigue, severe infection or persistent one that isn't responding well to treatment.

The labs our ped GI orders every time I have arranged to have our lab keep in their system as standing orders. I can walk in at any time and request those labs be done and they do them. This is really helpful and I recommend you try to arrange this if you can.

Badger's standing lab orders includes:

CBC w/differential
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Amylase
Lipase
GGT
Ferritin
CrP
EsR

Thanks everyone.

I was just curious to know how often everyone else gets their bloods done.

My daughters first DR only did one test in about 8 months that we went there.(the first few months she wasn't diagnosed)

At the IDB clinic she was supposed to get it done every 2 months...but it was always done earlier due to symptoms. Now they are saying every 3 months even though her ESR has been climbing......:confused2:

I was thinking of making an earlier appointment just to keep an eye on things.

Hey upsetmom,

My two, both in remission, have them very two months due to being on maintenance medication.

After the drug is well established some doctors will pan tests out to six monthly. Three monthly is quite common but the GI and the GP, and I agree, don't believe in going longer than 2 months with the Imuran.

we do monthly labs despite her being asymptomatic to monitor the level of tacro and her kidney function.
