DS is on MTX injections (10mg ) started four weeks ago.
He gets injections every friday.
Last monday , 3 days after his 3rd MTX injection his rt foot became red, swollen, toe nails bloody. The redness increase and the "blood" like streaks started to go up his calf. After many hours we spoke with the GI and headed to the ER. BY time we got there his leg /foot were fine. We were told possible trauma , got X-ray and went home. Thought it was a freak thing.
Fast forward today same thing same pattern only up to his thigh today.

I took pics and was able to get the ped to look at them and DS. Of course it looked a lot better by time we got there and waited to be seen ( 6 -8 hours from start to finish).

Docs have no ideas at all...All are stumped - ER docs. GI docs. Allergy docs. and Ped.:confused2:

We are getting some blood work to look at clotting.

So has this happened to anyone else on MTX?? or anyone else with crohn's???

Gosh MLP, I have never heard or read anything about this being a possible MTX side effect. I can certainly see how this could be concerning though. S had his 5th MTX shot last week and we haven't encountered anything like this. Hope you get some answers soon!

Me either......Claire has been on Mtx for about 13 months. Please let us know what you find out!

Really?! Like you need another mysterious thing to keep you guessing!

Sorry no experience with that with O but when I was 7 I had a similar thing happen to me...can't remember what it was though but freaky.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sometimes it feels like if it's not one thing, it's another,eh? Sorry, I'm no help either. My son's on MTX right now but we've had no issues (yet). I'll be thinking about you and waiting to hear what happens!

I spoke with our allergist today who has seen DS for many many years now. He said that with kids like DS ( allergies, asthma, and IBd) there is typically more than one autoimmune disorder going on. He suggested that if it were to happen again that we take him to rheumatology.
I tend to believe him since he has seen my kid the longest and he was the one who insisted something was very wrong (prior to Crohn's dx) when DS was having chronic vomiting and couldn't understand why he didn't have a repeat scope.:hallo3:. He is also the doc who has been right on target for sending us to the correct other specialists for all of DS's other issues. The other specialists don't seem to notice :yfaint: the extras . just their area.:ymad:

So I will be calling RA in the am. incase we have a repeat next week . I can always cancel.
